40+ points for the second straight Big Ten game

4th in the Big Ten in scoring offense

4th in the Big Ten in rushing offense

30+ points in 7 of 9 games this season

Control our own destiny in the division with 3 games remaining

I was at the game yesterday so wasn't really on GH. I checked in at one point during a break and saw (4) "Fire Claeys" threads in the (5) most recent commented on. As message board we really should be embarrassed.

While the stats are there, let's wait until we play a better defense before we determine how good the offense actually is. There is still much to be desired in the passing game and play-calling.
 

Here's some free advice. This thread would be interesting and relevant if it was the end of November. Hopefully you're back then, but you probably won't be after Mitch throws 3 picks vs Wisconsin.
 


You have to be intellectually honest with yourself. We haven't faced very good defenses thus far and of the one we did (PSU) they were extremely banged up at the time. Versus Iowa we scored 7 points. We have a phenomenal turnover margin which explains why we are 4th in scoring offense but 9th in total offense. That results from fumbling at a below average rate but also feasting on some backup and first year starter QBs this season, and an opportunistic defense (primary reason).

Defensive S&P+ through yesterday:

Oregon State 88
Colorado State 41
Penn State 9
Iowa 49
Maryland 74
Rutgers 110
Illinois 93
Purdue 114

I don't disagree. But at the same time the complaint in the past has been that our offense doesn't score a lot against bad defenses. Now they are.

Hopefully I'm back? What does that even mean? When did I leave? I'm with the Gophers through thick and thin, unlike a lot of posters here who are only Gophers fans when they meet their standards.
 

Is it fair to say the offense could be worse, but it could be better?

You don't get to dictate what a fan is. Yelling at your kids doesn't mean you don't love them. Get better every day.

I don't threaten to disown my kids if they don't meet my standards. Virtually none of the criticism on this board is constructive. Yelling "Fire Claeys" and "this offense sucks" every other post achieves nothing.

And hurts nothing. I think most of the criticism has been balanced and fair. Some go too far on both sides of the ledger (guess which side you're on).

Oh no! I don't piss and moan constantly about the Gophers and want everyone fired and/or benched after every other play! Rip on me! I'm the worst!
 

The Gophers are 3rd in the country in turnover margin and 13th in fewest turnovers lost.

Penn St at 9th is a bit odd considering they're 35th in yards allowed, and 50th in points allowed.

But to your point we have played mostly bad defenses and we're 43rd in points/g and 83rd in yards/g.

i get you love hyperbole more than any other poster, and I'm a fan of your posts, and I know you can be better than that.
 

The offensive line does get pushed around, there are lots of 2nd and long situations, and there is a lot of bad play calling and coaching blunders. I think the public perception is different. Yesterday was a good example. A sold out crowd with standing room only with an additional 5,000 plus walking around outside the stadium. It is time for that 3rd deck. Lets go !!!!!!!

The record of the teams the gophers have beaten is 24-40.
The record of the teams we have beaten when playing FBS opponents is 13-35.


We should have good stats.
