I'm just going to run a little list of why this is the most important game to our Gophers for the season and maybe the last 60+ years.
1. It's Wisconsin - The Axe game is circled on the calendar the moment it is announced.
2. It's for a spot in the B1G Championship Game! I did just type that and it's true! Winning has happened before, but this is the next step to becoming B1G men on campus in the conference. Knocking on the door is nice, kicking it in is something we've never done.
3. National exposure - College GameDay! Top ten Ranking! National Spotlight! - Recruiting will be so much easier if we win this game. Think of all the kids out there that will hear Johnson and Bateman are the first teammates to go over 1,000 yards in the same season!
4. Need to come up big or Penn State may look like a fluke - We need another B1G win against a team that matters.
5. Minnesota needs this! - Think of all the times teams other than the Twins have gotten close and failed to deliver. Even in politics! Minnesota needs a team that shoves adversity to the side and goes out and wins. This is the Gophers chance to shut the naysayers up who have existed since the Vikings lost to Kansas City way back when. I'm darn sick of people saying our teams will blow it. We need the Gophers to deliver here in this huge spot in our house with the full attention of college football upon us!
We could lose the B1G championship and the Bowl Game for all I care. This is the one we need. This is the one we want. This is the one these players deserve.
