November 11, 1972- Minnesota 35 Northwestern 29
Gophers roll up 478 rushing yards while completing no passes. A running back from Alabama has 188 of those yards and later during the season he will become the first Gopher to have a 1,000-yard season. Another back, from North Dakota, runs for 157 yards. He will go on to play 6 seasons in the NFL as a safety for the Patriots and Chargers. Can you name these players? JOHN KING AND DOUG BEAUDOIN

November 12, 2005- Minnesota 41 Michigan State 18
Gophers rush for 337 yards. With Laurence Maroney and Gary Russell banged up in the first half, a back from New Jersey comes in and has a 206-yard day. In 2006 he will lead the team with 1,272 rushing yards. The Spartan quarterback will go on to a 14-year NFL career as a back-up for 6 teams. Can you name these players? AMIR PINNIX AND DREW STANTON

One week after shocking #2 Penn State in Happy Valley, the Gophers are clinging to a 27-20 lead with 10:00 to play. A junior quarterback from Edina, who will go on to break all Gopher passing records, hooks up with a tight end from suburban LA on a 4th quarter, 43-yard scoring play to break a 7-7 tie. The receiver will go on to an 8-year NFL career, including 2 seasons with the Vikings. Purdue's sophomore quarterback serves up 3 interceptions but he will have better days. November 15, 1969- Minnesota 14 at Michigan State 10
Down 10-0 after 3 quarters, Gophers get 2 touchdown passes by a senior quarterback from Eau Claire. With 4:00 left, the winning pass goes to a tight end from Uniontown, PA who will go on to play every game as an offensive tackle with the 1971 Lions. This is Minnesota's 6th straight win over Duffy Daugherty's Spartans and they will make it 7 in 1970. Can you name these players? PHIL HAGEN AND RAY PARSON

November 16, 1996- Minnesota 23 Illinois 21
Gophers snap a 13-game Big 10 losing streak, despite giving up 315 rushing yards to an Illini back who will go on to play 7 years in the NFL and become a Super Bowl Champion with the Rams. A Gopher wide-out who was born in Jamaica and raised in Ontario has 6 catches for 131 yards. He will go on to be a 3-time Grey Cup Champion and record 400+ career catches for 6,000+ yards. Can you name these players? ROBERT HOLCOMBE AND RYAN THELWELL

In perhaps the most unlikely Gopher win, Minnesota makes just 4 first downs and is outgained from scrimmage by 440 yards to 83. Down 16-6, the Gophers recover the 5th of 6 lost fumbles by the Illini at the home team's 5 -yard line with just 4:30 to go. On the next play, a promising freshman back scores. He will be stricken by a rare form of polio and never play another season. The Illini then promptly lose fumble #6 and on the next play, a 4th-string quarterback from Illinois throws a 30-yard touchdown pass. 1969 game winning TD: Ray Parsons from Uniontown, PA. Also, I believe the QB was Phil Haugen.

Aaron Brown caught that td pass to defeat Purdue in 1964.’John Hankinson was the great Gopher qb who threw Aaron that pass. Jamison was also an outstanding hockey player at the U.

Aaron Brown was also one of my personal favorite players of all time. back in those days players played both offense and defense and Aaron was best known for his incredible defensive end abilities.

you are correct. Make the receiver Kent Kramer and I think I’ll be correct!

But I am pretty darn old and hardly ever get to mention one of my all-time favorites: Aaron Brown.. He was also on that team!

I am not going to post the answer because I peeked. I would never have guessed it though. I've been to LA many times and had never even heard of that suburb.

Illini back: Robert Holcomb.

For some strange reason, this game used to always been shown on BTN as a Great Gopher game from the past. Don't know if it was for the 4th Q comeback or Wacker's last win or what, but it was 2 non-descript teams.
