November 4, 1967- Minnesota 10 at Iowa 0
On their way to a share of the Big 10 title, Gophers get a 17-yard scoring pass from Curtis Wilson to a tight end from North Carolina. He caught just 21 passes for Minnesota and none before his senior year, but would still go on to an NFL Hall of Fame career. An All-American defensive end from St. Louis Park supplies a short field goal. Can you name these players?

November 5, 1938- #2 Minnesota 28 Iowa 0
A running back from Austin, MN, who was known as "The Little Indian" runs for a touchdown while Nile Kinnick's Hawkeyes manage just 4 first downs. He went on to play 8 years with Washington and help the team win an NFL title in 1942. At age 49 he was shot to death by his estranged wife at his home in a DC suburb. Can you name him?

November 6, 1954- Minnesota 44 Oregon State 6
Warmath's first team gets to 7-1 as Bob McNamara has 161 rushing yards and the Gophers get 2 touchdown passes from an "Iron Ranger" who would go on to be one of the first stars of the new American Football League as a receiver and place kicker. Can you name him?

November 7, 1981- Minnesota 35 #18 Ohio State 31
In their last win at Memorial Stadium, the Gophers get a school-record 444 passing yards (since eclipsed) and 5 touchdown passes from a California JC transfer. 3 of these scoring passes go to a tight end from Winona, with the last coming on a tipped pass in the end zone from 28 yards out with 2:38 left. OSU has a 4-year starter at QB who will be an NFL bust and career criminal due to a gambling addiction. Can you name these players?

November 8, 2003- #24 Minnesota 37 Wisconsin 34 Gophers get their 9th win for the first time since 1905. Marion Barber III has 139 rushing yards and Laurence Maroney adds 135. Minnesota leads 24-6 at halftime, but quarterback Asad Abdul-Khaliq goes down with a shoulder injury. A senior back-up from Mayville, MN comes in and makes just enough plays. On the final play of the game, a kicker from the UK nails a 35-yarder to win it and then leads the charge to retrieve The Axe. Can you name these players?

November 9, 1946- Minnesota 13 Purdue 7
With the Gophers clinging to a 13-7 lead in the final minutes, a Purdue back bursts through the line and sprints 73 yards to the Minnesota 12-yard line, where he is brought down by Billy Bye. Purdue loses a fumble on the next play, however, and does not threaten again. This Boiler back will go on to a College Football Hall of Fame career as a head coach, winning 4 National Championships. Can you name him?

November 10, 2012- Minnesota 17 at Illinois 3
The Gophers become bowl-eligible in Jerry Kill's 2nd season. On a raw, wind-swept day, a straight-ahead power back from Delray Beach, FL has 152 of Minnesota's 231 rushing yards and both Gopher touchdowns. He is now finishing his 2nd season as running backs coach at North Dakota. Can you name him?

Thank you! I love this stuff!
Mike Hoensee was the QB and Jay Carroll from Winona Cotter HS caught 3 td passes in that 1981 Memorial Stadium game vs tOSU.

In the 1967 game for Floyd, Charlie Saunders caught the TD pass and went on to play for the Detroit Lions for years

Bob Stein kicked the field goal.

I happened to make my first road trip and attended that game!

Donnell Kirkwood is the 2012 RB. Or "Kirkland" as some broadcasters called him.

No one seemed to know the 1938 game or reference. Finally had to go online and find the answer is Wilbur Moore. Loved this history lesson. Thank you to the original poster

I was at that '81 win over OSU. Great Game. Lots of mixed emotions that year as I knew Gopher Football would never be the same after Memorial was bulldozed.
Had a great group of tailgaters in those years but a year or 2 after the move to the dome it all vanished. :(

I was there too and it was fun. Organized a group of 40 via bus the next two years to the dome. We had fun (lots of beer) but the Gophers sucked and it was not the same.

Thank YOU! You are the only person to come up with the correct answer. I love doing this little feature.
