#18 Minnesota 26 Northwestern 7
A senior back from Hastings has 120 rushing yards and a pair of 24-yard scoring runs. He would go on to be a 9th round pick by the Browns but go on to play in Canada. He ran for 1100 yards for Winnipeg in 1956 before playing for the Denver Broncos in their first season in 1960.
October 10, 1936
Minnesota 7 Nebraska
With 1:08 to play, the Gophers score the game's only touchdown on a 75-yard punt return that featured a cross-field lateral. The lateral was executed by a Minneapolis native who later became one of the most successful head coaches in college football history, winning 47 straight games, 3 National Championships and 14 Big 8 titles. The Gophers actively courted him after dismissing Bierman in 1950 but could not land him.
The back who scored the touchdown was a St. Paul native who went on to play for Green Bay (1938-1943), helping them to an NFL championship in 1939. He had 2100 rushing yards for Green Bay and is a member of the Packer Hall of Fame.

The Gophers roll up 414 yards in winning their 11th straight. A back from Melrose has a 73-yard scoring run. He helped the Gophers win 2 National Championships in his 3 seasons with Minnesota (1940-1942). During WWII he was stationed near Ann Arbor and was permitted to play for Michigan in 1943. He had the odd distinction of playing on a Brown Jug winner for both schools.
October 12, 1968

The Gophers get a 61-yard touchdown on a punt return from a junior defensive back from Robbinsdale. The next Saturday, he would have another scoring punt return in a 14-13 win at Michigan State.

The Gophers have 346 rushing yards, 179 by a senior back from Alabama who had become the first player in school history with 1,000 rushing yards in a season (1972).
