1)Gophers play their first and only game on Thanksgiving Day. Why was the game played so late in the year?
2)Badgers have it 1st and goal at Gopher 1-yard line late in first half and are stuffed. Badgers have it 1st and goal at Gopher 9-yard line late in game and are again thwarted as a future NFL star makes 3 consecutive tackles. Can you name him?
3)A junior fullback-linebacker-place kicker scores all of Minnesota's points. Can you name this Wisconsin native?
Note to old-timers- Do you recall the previous game at Purdue? With Minnesota down 13-11 late in the game, Aaron Brown is rumbling in the open field for an apparent winning touchdown but he pops a hamstring and is caught inside the Purdue 20-yard-line. 3 running plays put Minnesota in position for a short field goal. The player in #3 misses the chipshot and the Gophers are denied their first ever win in West Lafayette. I still remember his anguished expression in the photo on the front page of the Sunday Sports Peach. But he enjoyed some redemption against Wisconsin!
4) Minnesota's pedestrian offense gets a lift vs. Badgers by the performance of a sophomore back from St. Paul. His future seems bright but an off-season injury will prevent him from ever playing well again. Can you name him?

The game was postponed from the previous Saturday because of the death of JFK. It was played at 10 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day and was a trenedous escape and release from all the darkness of the week. Carl Eller was the star of the game, leading the goal line stands. Was the scorer/kicker Mike Reid?

Leo: I think Dick Herron was the running back from St. Paul Cretin. Can you name the captain of the 1963 Gophers

I believe Milt Sunde was the captain.

My brother and I arose early for the game and made the 200 mile trip from Detroit Lakes to Memorial Stadium for the game. It was a gray overcast day with a raw wind. The game was exciting and with a better result than the previous year debacle in Madison. Nevertheless, one couldn't stop thinking why the game was being played on Thanksgiving Day. It was a somber time.

Go Gophers!!
