Winless at midseason, Gophers win their last four games. Barry Mayer slogs through a quagmire for 216 yards, a team record for the modern era that has since been eclipsed. A sophomore from Daytona Beach, Florida has 3 short touchdown runs. He had been the first black player to sign a scholarship offer to Florida State but thought better of it after he and his family received numerous death threats. Intent on becoming a doctor, he came to Minnesota and realized his dream. To this day, he credits Warmath for his athletic, personal and professional success. Can you name him?

Leo, I never post about how much I appreciate these looks back to our history, but I truly appreciate your efforts. Please keep them going.

Unregistered User- Thank you for your kind words! I have fun doing this and am pleased that you and maybe some others also enjoy these questions. I'm looking forward to going on to the basketball board later this month. Happy Thanksgiving!

I was at that game with a goal line seat but can not answer that
