On their way to a bowl game for the first time in 16 years, Gophers roll up 349 rushing yards and hold Illini to 146 total yards. A junior fullback from Rochester has an NCAA record 57 carries for 266 yards (a school record since eclipsed). Can you name him?

Doc: I think that there are 2 n's in Kent's last name. Sorry, just being pedantic.

I remember listening to this game on the radio when I was 10. I remember because two records were set that day: 57 carries by Kent Kitzman and my 102 points scored in a nerf hoops game against myself.

1973 was the Gil Fash game. Both Tony Dungy and John Rawling(sp?) were hurt. I think Fash only completed one or two passes the entire game. One was for a game winning TD. Can you name the Gopher receiver who caught the TD pass?

Ron Kulus?

As Kintzman was making the 57th carry I hit a 9 iron about a foot from the cup on #10 at AGC. Fall golf with Gophers & Ray on wcco...priceless.

Doc- Yes! The 1973 Illinois game was a supreme oddity. Minnesota was outgained 460-83 and made just 4 first downs. Down 16-6 with 5 minutes left (The Gophers had scored in the first half on a blocked field goal return) the Gophers were gifted by the 5th and 6th lost fumbles by Illinois. The final touchdown pass by Fash, who had 4 interceptions, went to Dale Henricksen.

It was John Lawing, from Lincolnton, NC. I went to grad school with a guy who was John Lawing's neighbor in NC. He told he that Lawing is a lawyer and has lived in Atlanta and Denver.

Are you sure that it wasn't Mike Jones? I think that Paul Glanton ran a blocked field goal back for a TD in that game.
