Unbeaten Gophers win title game in Pillsbury Classic at the Met Center. An outstanding guard from New York City scores 27 points with 11 boards for Minnesota. After a productive NBA career with the Knicks and Celtics, he will endure a period of homelessness. Former teammates like Kevin McHale will come to his aid and help him get back on track. Can you name him?

Great memories of the pillsbury classic. We would go in for the tournament every year.

We'd go to the Pillsbury every year also. Free tickets were easy to come by. Usually, we'd have a few beers at the Thunderbird before the game. Ray "Sugar" Williams

Our family moved back to Minnesota in the summer of '77, and the Pillsbury Classic provided my earliest memories of Gopher basketball. The first thing I remember about the Met Center/Pillsbury was seeing the multi-colored seats. The next thing I remember was the soft opponents the Gophers played in the 1st round, which I learned later is standard MO in a 4-team tournament (the host plays the perceived worst team in its first game). Looking back at some of the opponents and final scores, maybe some of 'em weren't such cupcakes after all (Florida State, Georgia Tech, Houston, Texas A&M)?
