Anyone else notice how when Wisconsin was driving toward the student section, that he was screaming at the defense b/c there was eligible player on his side and nobody was manning him up. At the snap he decided to cover the guy, and wiscy through in incomplete pass.

This guy makes a difference on the field. Hats off to thee!

I noticed that too. That was a great play by Theret. He is definately a leader on the defense.

He was one of the only guys taking good angles into those Clay runs, several times he stepped up and filled for a tackle and minimal gain, mostly though he was too late, as other guys had already whiffed or overpursued. He's a good player, emotional, tough, smart. I'm going to go out on a limb and say he'll be a captain next year.

Theret plays to the best of his ability. Too bad he has limited ability. Don't get me wrong, I love the guy, but he gets burned on some plays, and makes some great plays -takes the correct angle, understands what is going on. However guarding more athletic WR's is an issue and most teams have better athletes than Theret. Now if we could take Theret's mind and put it in BPT, that would be perfect

He's the type of player that can thrive when he's playing with great athletes around him. He's not a shut down corner or unreal athlete at safety, but he can diagnose an offense and put guys in the right spot to make a play, he can play backup to a gambling cover corner, or a livewire saftey covering for their mistakes, but allowing them freedom to make big plays. The problem is we don't have those types in our secondary regardless of what Simmons or Royston claim to be.

The consensus on the "other board" for months has been that Theret shouldn't even be playing for a D1 (Bowl Division:cry:) team let alone starting.

Go figure huh?

I would rather have a Kyle Theret over a Big Play Traye (rumor has it that he started that nickname) who tries to go for flash and style instead of laying a hard hit or wrapping up the receiver.

I like Theret as a player but let's not get carried away here

He is a good heady college football player, with good football smarts and IQ. That said he lacks height and is not blessed with good foot speed. Decent speed but not great speed.
He get's isolated on a lot on speed option play's and toss sweeps and does not have the speed to be able to run down the runner or the angle. Kid's got gutts put's his nose in there and makes tackles, but he get's beat a lot too.

Smart player. Tries his ass off. Willing to risk his body. Much more than you can say for some of our other dbs. In any case you don't want to build a defense around him unless you have another stud at safety which we surely do not.

Simmons is starting to take too much abuse though. He has his issues but complete cbs in college football are pretty rare.

Theret has stepped up this year. He's helped people get lined up a lot and seems to be providing some leadership/advice after plays to the other dbs. A good thing too, because Royston hasn't been as good as I thought he'd be. Should be a big help next year when we'll be a little green at the corners.

If Brock was still here, which of the three (Theret, Royston, Brock) would be on the bench? I wouldn't have said this last year, but I don't think it'd be Theret.

Royston is very overrated. It's hard to believe he is the best we have at safety. Not a very good Fs. I don't think Wisc, was broken hearted when he left.
