For those of you who missed the game coverage yesterday ...that was just one of many telling comments made by the commentators.
Another was: If Minnesota could only get out of it's own way!
The Gophers turned the ball over 19 times.
The commentators went to use comments like sloppy, pointing fingers, any turnover (repeatedly), throwing up bricks (repeatedly). Poor body language, shot clock violation.
I keep track, during the game, which Minnesota players gave up points on defense. It was telling:
Coleman gave up 10 points to Illinois
Welch 2
Mbakwe 2
Ahaimisi 8
Walker 2
Eliason 2
Ingram 2
Williams 5
Dre Hollins 7
Austin Hollins 10
Team 2
Given the fact the team went back and forth between man to man and zone the above isn't valuable.
But telling was the last 4 possessions involved Rodney Williams. He was given a bad pass by Mbakwe in the lane and lost possession. He followed on the next trip down the floor with a charge. He received a bad inbound pass by Dre Hollins ...caught it off balance and tipped to Austin Hollins who turned the ball over but the ball ended up deflected out of bounds. Then Rodney threw in a lousy inbound passed to Austin Hollins who bounced the ball of his or the defenders shoe ...caught the ball while stepping on the sideline/throwing the ball off the defenders body. It resulted in a turnover. Illinois had one last inbounds and made the last second shot to win the game.
