There is no way the Gophers are going to beat OSU tommorrow. There are a number of reasons why this is not going to happen.

1. Mr. Pryor has looked terrible lately. No doubt about that. Everyone thinks he'll do terrible on Saturday. We have been through this song and dance before. Everytime a quarterback looks to be down and out, he has a career game against the Gophers. The PSU quarterback was suppose to be struggling before the Gophers played him. He looked like a canidate for Heisman after our game. We have seen this scenerio played out one too many time with the Gophers.

2. Brewster has never won a big game he has coached so far in the three season he's been here.

3. Weber is looking awful. We keep expecting a breakthrough game and it never happens. I think changing his throwing motion and going away from the spread has contributed to his lack of performance. I know this much, the break out game should not occur against this defense in OSU.

4. After losing a game OSU is almost impossible to beat. Especially if the game is in the horseshoe

5. The big physical teams in the Big Ten, we have not faired so well this year in playing Wisconsin, and PSU. Why would OSU be any different?

Prediction - This is the time most of us have been dreading. What's going to be the final score? For some reason I think the Gophers are going to come out ready to play Saturday. PSU game helped prepare the coaches and the team for OSU.

I think the offensive coaches are going to do three things different. Pass out of the shotgun more, because it's more comfortable for Mr. Weber. Play Whaley more so we can have a running game. Plus you will see a lot of Mr. Gray in there.

Cosgrove is going to throw the kitchen sink at Terrel. The coaching staff on both sides of the ball is going to come out agrressive because they finally realize instead of playing scaried and conservative, let's play like we have nothing to lose.

Prediction Gophers 27, OSU 13

To quote Meatballs:

And even if we win, if we win, HAH! Even if we win! Even if we play so far above our heads that our noses bleed for a week to ten days; even if God in Heaven above comes down and points his hand at our side of the field; even if every man woman and child held hands together and prayed for us to win, it just wouldn't matter because all the really good looking girls would still go out with the guys from Mohawk because they've got all the money! It just doesn't matter if we win or we lose. IT JUST DOESN'T MATTER!

Pass out of the shotgun more, because it's more comfortable for Mr. Weber.

I agree, but Burris is not good/comfortable in the shotgun. Maybe Davis will play and we can do this.

The Gophers will again have trouble with a bigger, more physical team. The most likely route (but not the only route) to success for the Gophers is to get the lead, and get turnovers. If the Gophers fall behind, the physical Buckeyes will not need to take chances and can rely on defense and running game to take the game away from the good guys. We need a win like this in a big way.

Davis

Trey is suppose to be playing this week at center

If T-Stoud's returns a kick for 6, I think we have a chance. We need scoring from our special forces in this game.

I think the light bulb finally goes on for our coaching staff. They finally decided it's time to play with reckless abadonment. Everyone here was saying play conservative and play not to lose against PSU. That got us a lose at Penn State. Exactly what I said would happen.

The coaches will on both sides of the ball will decide to play aggressive and stop being scared in making mistakes. Play to win!

Well I guess reading this thread has saved me the trouble of watching the game on Saturday since we all know what is going to happen.

This reminds me of an episode of Gilligan's Island. A radioactive meteor impacted on the Island, and the Professor had an idea, but it only has a 1 in a million chance of working*. The Skipper said "what could be worse than 1 in a million?" Gilligan said "none in a million?"

If we play it safe, it's none in a million. If we take some chances, try to get the ball downfield to Decker, maybe it's 1 in a million, but that's better than none in a million. If our defense manages to get interception instead of nearly getting interceptions, that will give us a chance. Against Penn State, on one of their TD drives, there was a pass that should have been picked off, but was instead batted away. It would have been an easy pick if he had gone for it, but I don't think he realized that he was going to have a good shot at the pick when he decided how he was going to play it.

We need to be prepared to take advantage of any mistake OSU makes. If we have to go down, lets go down swinging.

*Everyone knows that events that have a 1 in a million chance always happen. But it has to be exactly 1 in a million.

One thing always amazed me about the professor. He could make a nuclear reactor out of a coconut, but he couldn't patch a hole in a boat. You think he could have scored with either Ginger or MaryAnn, too.

The Gophers seem to have a knack for catching teams the week after they've just crapped the bed. Just once one would think our timing would be a little luckier. Then again, in 2000 we caught the Buckeyes napping. I agree with others in this thread about taking chances. I'd rather lose 42-14 swinging for the fences than going down 20-0 like last week.

Agree

Why not go down swinging? I also would rather lose 45-10 in being aggressive, then 20-0 when our offense was as boring as they come.

Before the Penn State game everyone on these boards was saying play conservative. Don't do anything fancy and lets hope we can win. Let's play focusing on not trying to make mistakes. I said no way are we going to out slug Penn State playing conservatively. Hence we lost 20-0 in a very uninspired game.

Let's for once not be so concerned about making mistakes and go for it. Throw it deep once in a while to Stoudlmire or Carpenter. Give Gray some touches. Have Weber play out of the shotgun more. On defense blitz, blitz and biltz some more.

We have absolutely nothing to lose! Let's play to win for once this year and not to lose. If we get creamed so be it.

Why do you think the Proffessor never fixed the hole in the boat? Its because he WAS scoring with both Ginger and Mary Ann.

It's Homecoming, too. Normal expectations for this game would be something like 44-6, Buckeyes. tOSU will be out to show hometown fans they are still a top 20 team. Weber is shooting at 56%, with more interceptions than touchdowns. Gophers can't run, etc. But weird things happen (Gophers beating Michigan a few times, Mason upsetting Buckeyes in Columbus). Still, unless weather is a big factor, this should be the Gophers' worst loss of the season, sad to say. For the third year in a row, the Gophers do not have a Big Ten offense - and the coaches seemingly have no remedy. Hope I'm wrong...

Don't forget....Gold04 4 days ago thought Fisch was the worst hire in a long time and was saying I told you so because the U didn't hire Mike Hokanksee....

Someone's just desperate for attention.....

Every fiber of Gopher Nation hopes/prays/begs that THIS is the game the light bulb does in fact go off. I agree with the posters who say last week's blowout despite the conservative gameplan should show the coaches they need to take chances.

The gameplan should be aggressive, deferring to what Minnesota does best.

On Defense: The Gophers need to blitz--almost constantly. Tressel ball dictates that when the QB is struggling the answer is to run the ball repeatedly and occasionally play-action pass. The Gophers need to blitz nearly every play so that the run is stuffed and the pass never has time to develop. Ohio State's O-line/QB play is the biggest weakness on that team. If Purdue can exploit that, MInnesota should be able to create some TOs (here's hoping for an early pick six for the Gophers!) As the game goes on either blitz or show blitz every single play.

On Offense: Ohio State's D is the best in the nation, even better than Penn State. Minnesota needs to run most of its' offense out of the gun-Weber's more comfortable in it and it positions Weber further away from that freakish Buckeye front four. Run bubble screens, throw the ball deep downfield against single coverage (and occasionally double, if the WR is Decker and it's a fade route). Basically bring back the the better offensive sequences from the Cal game.

At the end of the day the Gophers have a chance to win if they score on Defense and/or Special Forces. If the Gophers do these things, they will have a fighting chance. If not, they won't.

I'm not saying fisch is the greatest, and we should have hired Hohensee. I do think the light comes for our coaching staff this game.

Instead of recieving punches let's dish them out! Play to win instead of playing not to lose.

Looking back to 2000:

Dominant game by wide receiver Ron Johnson - 8 for 163 and 1 TD
3-for 3 field goals
Big special teams play - blocked punt
Pressure on the QB - 4 sacks
Dominant D - 200 yards given up (611 yards given up the next week at IU)

If Brewster finally gets smart and stops taking a knee at the end of the half, and having Weber take every snap, and does some ballsy calls, maybe he has a chance. But I guess Mr. Sweatervest beats him bloody.

My promise: If Brewster finally gets an upset in his 3rd year I will resign from this site and shut up forever. How's that for incentive?

from what I've read about that show, Ginger was scoring with everybody off camera, up to and including the catering guy. Supposedly her trailer was always rockin'. I remember some crapazzed sitcom where they were talking about Gilligan's Island, and the inevitable Ginger vs. MaryAnn question came up. One guy said to the other,

"why are you debating this. A letch like you would do Mrs. Howell."

Attack them early and hard. Catch them when they think this is going to be easy. Let some doubt fester in their minds, and get the homecoming crowd to start booing.
