With a 62-28 record in the SEC West and 2 national championship game appearances who could sell out TCF stadium on day 1 just sitting out there, and some of you would rather have Claeys? Has this board gone nuts?

Lane Kiffin? He hasn't won 2 titles yet, but he will.

What he would take to coach elsewhere + probably $2MM per year to coach at MN instead = More than the U would ever spend.

If you think Les Miles could be the next Gopher coach, you're delusional.

Have you seen LSU play much?

Same coach went 16-16 in Big 12 play when he had a recruiting footprint way closer to the Gophers than LSU.

Thanks guys for proving my point why the U never wins. Making excuses why we shouldn't hire Les Miles LOL.

It's not going to happen. He would change the program on Day 1 but why would he come to Minnesota?

We don't win because you are a terrible fan.

Foliage, if the Gophers can get Les Miles, then by all means they should do it. I like Claeys and I'm in favor of extending him, but if you can get a Les Miles type guy, that's a step up.

But don't fool yourself - the odds are monumentally against it.

OSU was 13-20 in the previous 3 years before Miles. After going 4-7 in year one he went 24-14 the next 3 years beating Oklahoma twice and those Sooner teams were ranked #3 and #4.

Yet there have been multiple reports he has been considering the Purdue job.

Doesn't hurt that T. Boone Pickens (and his billions of dollars) suddenly took an interest in college football around the same time.

You mean what we post here has an effect on who is hired? Why didn't you say so earlier?

My understanding is that Miles is more of a "CEO" type of head coach - the coordinators handle a lot of the X's and O's stuff. So, if you're going to hire a coach like that, not only are you going to have to shell out a huge salary for the head coach, but you're also going to have to pay big bucks for top-flight coordinators.

I am not opposed to doing that - I just am very skeptical that the U of MN administration would sign off on it. The U of MN, for whatever reason, wants to win, but doesn't want to be seen as a "football" school. That's why we have a very nice - but small by D1 standards - stadium. The U of MN gives lip service that 'they want to win,' but when push comes to shove, they have been unwilling to really devote the resources needed to win. Yes, the facility upgrades will help, but that just takes MN from the bottom of the pack to the middle of the pack for facilities. And it's questionable whether they can raise the money needed to move from the middle of the pack to the top.

Oklahoma State was irrelevant when he took over and they have been winning ever since. Also the Big 12 back in those days was way tougher than the Big Ten west is now.

Even if for arguments sake that the Gophers were still undefeated TCF Bank Stadium would not sell out. This fan base has been put through the wringer so many times that I am not sure what it would take to rebuild it. What can go wrong will go wrong.

Go Gophers !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Miles struggled to find a quarterback and develop a passing game at LSU. Why should we expect that he would be able to rectify Minnesota's quarterback/passing woes?

I'm both a Gophers and LSU fan, if you hire Miles he'll probably bring the unimaginative Cam Cameron to be his OC.

I was originally a Miles fan, but I've soured on him.

I'd rather hire PJ Fleck from Western Michigan than Miles.

So, fire Claeys and hire a guy who couldnt beat Westconsin with LSU's talent?..

That's EXACTLY what he would be, and why it's a horrible idea.
