My understanding is that Miles is more of a "CEO" type of head coach - the coordinators handle a lot of the X's and O's stuff. So, if you're going to hire a coach like that, not only are you going to have to shell out a huge salary for the head coach, but you're also going to have to pay big bucks for top-flight coordinators.
I am not opposed to doing that - I just am very skeptical that the U of MN administration would sign off on it. The U of MN, for whatever reason, wants to win, but doesn't want to be seen as a "football" school. That's why we have a very nice - but small by D1 standards - stadium. The U of MN gives lip service that 'they want to win,' but when push comes to shove, they have been unwilling to really devote the resources needed to win. Yes, the facility upgrades will help, but that just takes MN from the bottom of the pack to the middle of the pack for facilities. And it's questionable whether they can raise the money needed to move from the middle of the pack to the top.
