The View from outside the Twin Cities

3-point stance by Ivan Maisel of ESPN:

"3. Minnesota head coach Jerry Kill had another epileptic seizure Saturday during the Gophers’ victory over Western Illinois. That’s the fourth time it has happened during a game in his three seasons at Minnesota. But athletic director Norwood Teague has no issues with Kill coaching. Kill’s doctors have no issue with him coaching. And Kill has decided that being public about his condition may help others who suffer from epilepsy. He has no issue with coaching, either. In other words, there’s nothing to see here."

This:

"Armchair coaches are a part of the game, but armchair doctors should have no place here. We expect Kill and his doctors will work on his health, and he will continue to work hard for the betterment of Gopher football."

Picked up one of the local papers, read it and went directly to the net. This from The New Ulm Journal.

That about sums up my position exactly. I would add that if you think Jerry is performing poorly, that is a different conversation, one which can be had if he does poorly and where there is no reason to bring this up, either as an excuse or as a reason for reviewing his performance.

That is a good point. His seizures should be considered one piece in his entire body of work. If his missing practices or games because of the seizures is causing damage to the program, that is one thing. But if things continue on fine with his assistants picking up the slack, and the doctors are clearing him then what is the issue? So far I have not seen anything that suggests it is causing damage. I think most would agree the program as a whole is in better shape than the one he interited.

Good read. Did anyone see the lone comment below that?

Imagine if the sports editor of The Journal had a seizure with half his section laid out and it had to eat the ad revenue that day.

Good lord, that is just a terrible comparison. It would make sense if the Gophers had to forfeit the second half because he had a seizure.

What concerns me is if we lay an egg against SJSU...how many asshats will come out of the woodwork and blame it on Coach Kill's seizure and missing a day of prep?

I hope the boys go out and lay the wood to San Jose and show them the way home! Winning doesn't cure everything...but it sure cures a lot of things.

You know for a lot of people, analogies are a very mysterious and puzzling things. Of course for that guy basic math and brushing his teeth might be just as exotic.

More Kill material from ESPN, this time in Gene Wojciechowski's BMOC (scroll down to FOURTH QUARTER):

"The Minnesota administration has been supportive of Kill throughout these episodes. It is doing the right thing by judging Kill not by his epilepsy, but by his record, the quality of his work and his ability to graduate players.

Kill is a really good football coach. The occasional seizure doesn't change that fact and never will."

'Kill is a grinder, a fighter and, if given the chance, a winner.'

My favorite quote from the article. Nice work Gene!

One of our cottage guests is from Madison. He was appalled after reading Souhans column and how vicious it was. I told him that is very typical of the TC media. He said he was surprised by that considering how supportive the Badger scribes are. He also said the "apology" was a joke.

Best thread out right now. We should concentrate on this and football related stuff vs the trolls negative stuff at ESPN1500.

I am so feisty right now I want to play for Coach Kill. Does he need any slow 49yr olds with a bad knee?
