Watching the MSU vs. OSU game.. these teams show how important it is to be strong enough to finish around the basket, to hold position, to snatch the loose ball. This is the number one thing the Gophers lack- strength across the boards. Let's chalk it up to youth but all of these guys need to have a great summer in terms of gaining strength. I'm excited to get Mo back, a healthy Mo will be one big piece.

BTW- what a game!

Touche. And the one guy we have had in the last decade that could compete night in and night out in the strength area loses his senior season before the B1G season starts. Terrible February records, in my opinion, can be linked directly to lacking that inside presence on offense and defense. Our skinny guys just get pounded and are worn down. Here is hoping that Elliott and Mo can provide enough of that strength for us to compete an entire season next year. Shooting is essential, but so is bulk and aggressiveness under the basket, and they go underappreciated.

We had one of the strongest players in the country around the rim. Mbakwe. Tough for a RS frosh who needed to put on weight and a finesse-style senior center to make up for the muscle around the rim Trevor constantly provided. Not counting on him getting a 6th year, but if he does, he automatically makes us one of the better interior teams in conference.

That said, I do think Elliott and Mo will be plenty tough around the rim next season. Elliott's rebounding was pretty darn good this year, IMO.
I'd add that Rodney's toughness around the rim improved over the course of the year, and I can see that extrapolating inton 2012-13.

I'd like to see Austin put on a little bulk though, as he seems like with his length, he should be a better rebounder than he is.
