Required/Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree, five years of successful coaching experience and a demonstrated commitment to promoting the academic progress of student-athletes.
Duties/Responsibilities
1. Developing and maintaining a competitive Division I-A intercollegiate basketball program within the Big Ten Conference.
2. Directing all aspects of basketball staff in recruiting, practice and game competitions.
3. Significant administrative responsibilities, including the management of personnel and operations in the basketball office including budget planning, maintenance and monitoring.
4. Evaluating and recruiting qualified student-athletes to the University of Minnesota whose athletic skills make them highly competitive in the Big Ten and whose academic abilities make them good candidates for a meaningful academic experience and graduation from the University of Minnesota.
5. Assisting in monitoring the academic performance and the physical development of student-athletes and working with staff academic counselors and the strength and conditioning coach to help student-athletes achieve full potential in each area.
6. Establishment and maintenance of effective relationships within the athletics department, the University, community, booster clubs, alumni, high school coaches, media and the general public.
7. Commitment to and responsibility for adhering to all rules and regulations of the Department, the University, the Big Ten Conference, and the NCAA.
Program/Unit Description
The University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, a NCAA Division I institution and member of the Big Ten and WCHA Conferences is in search of a highly qualified candidate for the position of Head Men's Basketball Coach. Gopher Athletics offers 25 NCAA sponsored Division I sports and provides opportunities to over 750 students-athletes.

Could this be a sign that they have a candidate lined up? Isn't the rule with public institutions you can't hire someone until the job has been posted for the general public? I think this was the practice used when the U hired Kaler as Prez and when UW hired their football coach.
