Coach Kill's recent slot on the Sports Huddle was delayed until 10:18 a.m. due to an interview with Joe Mauer.

Comments and responses by coach Kill to Sid and Dave Mona's questions on today's Sports Huddle:

1) Sid asked if spots were still available for coach Kill's and his wife, Rebecca, social event this coming week: The answer is no. They've had to close the event because of the short time available to get jerseys and other amenities for the participants.

2) Sid asked what the coaches are doing now that they're back on campus: Coach Kill responded, Monday they'll be planning for two-a-days, player evaluation to get down to the 105 players that'll be invited to fall camp. He went onto say planning preparations for two-a-day practices involve a lot of people in addition to the coaches. As an example, he cited equipment personnel.

3) Sid then asked about a walkon receiving a scholarship (Sid thought the player was Henderson): Coach Kill covered by saying Cameron Botticelli had started in spring drills and has progessed nicely and thereby earning a scholarship . . . "Excited about his progress."

Sid then asked about other walkons that have earned scholarships during Kill's tenure at Minnesota: Kill said there are too many to list and didn't want to omit anyone so he begged off the question.

4) Dave asked about the 105 limit for two-a-days: It's an NCAA rule. Kill said a lot of factors go into who is invited to the fall camp: depth at positions, who's going to redshirt, academic considerations (someone needing additional work in their studies), etc. He also said you start at 105, however, injuries for an extended period of time will result in some players not with the original 105 being called up to meet the 105 number and creating depth.

5) Dave mentioned Devin Crawford-Tufts as a player to be called on: Kill said if they're going to enjoy success this fall on offense "He's got to have a good year. He can be an awful good player." And when he referenced the receiving corps he said, "We've got to make the quarterback look good!"

6) Sid asked about Moses Alipate's move to tight end and if he expects Moses to have a good year: "We'll have to see how he handles the transition. We told him we wanted him at a certain weight. It's up to Moses and what he does this summer." Kill then said the players have individual goals to accomplish over the summer, and he stressed it's up to the players.

7) Kill closed this week's segment speaking about the passing of former Gopher John Wiliams: "It's impotant that the state know what he (Williams) meant to the (Gopher) football team and the state. We lost a good man!"

Go Gophers!!

Thanks as always, DL, and welcome back.

Good recap. I heard the show also and thought Coach was not his usual perky self. He was on fifteen or twenty minutes later due to an interview with five million a home run mauer. IMO Coach has his days planned out and by pushing him back it might have messed up his schedule-no proof just my thoughts.

If he is on every week until FB, they might want to spend five minutes and actually think of a new question to ask. Normally DaveM does a good job of that, but today no one was prepared except CKill.

I taped the Iowa-Gopher game that was on BTN late last night and watched it at lunch time. Crawford-Tufts had a good game against Iowa, made an unbelievable catch that passed Ferentz's challenge. I predict he will have a break out year. I think he really improved last year as the season progressed.

I did the same with the Iowa game. He also ran a great route and got himself wide open for a huge gain when it looked Iowa was about to take over the game completely.

When do they start fall practice?

I had to chuckle when a caller commented on the Souhan article about the new Gopher Volleyball Coach and Sid went on to say how "soccer" hasn't been very big at the U but maybe the new coach could change that...oh brother he's hard to listen to.
