The ref today would make Frank Drebin/ Enrico Palazzo jealous!

Holy cow, is it just me or was that one ref in love with himself being part of the action?! Good gosh. How many times did he pat Izzo on the ass, or go out of his way to make a charismatic call, overly exaggerate a signal, etc.

The ref's performance reminded me of this classic scene:

Go Gophers!!

As the years go by Ted falls more deeply in love with himself. The way he slow danced Izzo back to the bench at one point in the second half was priceless.

I actually enjoy his personality. I actually went home and broke down film of the slow dance you mention. I read his lips and he was saying:

"Tommy Boy, I suggest you continue to back up until you cross that line so we can get on with this game, unless you want to see me make a little 'T' symbol with my hands."

TV Teddy did not get hick nickname by shying away from attention.

Thanks, Bleed. You nailed it! From now on. instead of getting pissed when I watch Valentine in action I'll just think of Frank Drebin.

I get leery of any official that puts their arm around a coach or player.

If a man can't simply point to the coaching box and expect the little leprechaun to get there himself, the dude is cruising for a T. I love Izzo, but the kid-glove treatment he gets makes me start to hate him.

Well, note that rather than teeing Tubby up for standing 5 feet into the court during play, they simply moved him back.

I thought the refs did a pretty good job of managing the game and keeping tempers down. Valentine has been awesome to watch over the last 16 years.

I felt the game was very well officiated overall. While it is easy to hate on Ted Valentine, I would much rather have him than Ed Hightower anyday.

True. When I looked out there and saw no Ed, I knew we had a chance.

Valentine is a showboat but he is a good ref to see at home. Loves the home calls- especially overturning a call to give it to the home team. I loved the out of bounds play where he ran 20 ft to point to the exact spot that the guy stepped out of bounds.
The balding ref is the one that struggled yesterday- both ways. If there was a bang-bang play or a " could go either way call" it seemed like it was his call to make.

Agreed.

Ted's theatrics are annoying, and I don't like how much Izzo got to complain without getting a T, but I did think the refs did a good job of letting the guys play a physical basketball game, and I enjoyed watching it.

Teddy is the ultimate hot dog, he loves the camera, but he is a good official. He's grown on me over the years, despite Monday's theatrics.

I miss the big lefthander, Steve Welmer.
