Too often, people posture themselves on this board on one side of the argument, refusing to acknowledge there's a gray area. I don't ever want to be one of those people. I have my opinions about the direction of the program and without question I have my gripes but I'd like to say something positive about this program. I've been too negative and I'd like to share some positive thoughts.

Revisiting the topic of recruiting, there are 8 verbals that I love. I'd be displeased if they reneged on their word.

The 8(in order of love):

Jimmy Gjere - OL - Might be the highest rated local kid to stay home since Tapeh or Sims. Love his mobility. Could step in and start right away. His measurables along with his quick feet make for a perfect left or right tackle.

Lamonte Edwards - RB or LB? Selfishly, I'd like to see him at RB. Good size. We need that. I think he'll be an impact player either way. Loved his video.

Chris Hawkins - WR - Live here in Houston. Asked my Channelview(east suburb of Houston) co-worker about him. Said he has excellent hands to go along with good body control. Offer list is impressive. Could see the field immediately

Josh Huff - RB - Another Houston kid that I don't know as much about compared to Hawkins. Small but shifty. While there's a need for a bruiser, if he's an upgrade over Whaley or Bennett (both are good, not great so far), that can't be bad for the team. Like the Oregon offer. They tend to evaluate RBs quite well.

Donnell Kirkwood - RB - If he stays at RB, good. If not, he's mobile enough to grow and find a place on the DL. I desperately want a bruiser in the backfield and he could be it.

Marquise Hill - WR - While the Gophs have some good slot WRs already, there's always room for another playmaker. Nice offer list. Like Hawkins, I could see him being an impact player right away at WR.

Tom Parish - QB - Mobile and can be taught the pro offense right away. Love the scene of him speaking to the team after his committment about why he chose Minnesota. Brewster said he's lock up a good QB in every class and Parish again fulfills that promise IMO

James Manual - DB - Love his size. I think his video shows he can play CB if needed. If there's a Defensive player in this class that plays right away, I predict it'll be him.

Of the other 14, I have some favorites that I think will make an impact (Tatum and Wills in particular) but these are the 8 I'm in love with.

if we are lucky, every true freshman next season will be RSed.

I agree with all of that. In addition our line recruits Josh Allen, Ragoo and Lenkiewicz will eventually be beasts. Obvious red shirts next year and they probably don't see the field the year after that but you can't teach size or athleticism and those 3 have both in truck loads.

Brewster needs to get better recruits on the DL for this team to be successful. He loves to snag RBs, WRs, QBs, etc but you can't build a team like that. The lines need to get much, much stronger. You can get all the WR recruits you want, but without the lines, it won't matter.

When talking about Kirkwood, I hope you mean DB because there is no way he is going to be anywhere near being on the DLine.

I think Kirksey, Edwards, Wilhite are pretty good DL recruits.

yeah and i like the potential of Hageman, KGM, Jacobs and Garin

Here's a fresh insight: we need a running back yesterday!

Whaley +20 lbs may pique my interest going into next year. Nothing else does right now.

Here's some more fresh insight for you Studwell55, 3 running backs have already committed (Edwards, Huff & Kirkwood). How many running backs do you want them to sign?

I was thinking the same thing. Did Stud look at the recruit list? I think we will be pretty good at RB if these guys pan out...

Will any of them contribute next year, it is desparately needed.

I would say the OL is more of a problem than the RB situation. I was definitely expecting more from the OL play this year (especially Carufel & Wills). I do think we have some nice linemen who will be able to contribute next year.

Whaley has improved as the season has progressed. He shows decent vision and bursts of speed (also some decent power).

Almost always when I see the great college running backs they're running through holes big enough for ruesse to amble through. Their greatness is apparent in other ways but almost always it's the line that deserves the kudos. We're getting better. I think if whaley had a little room he'd look pretty good.
