The Opportunity Is there for the Gophers to Tie for First Place in the Big Ten West!!

A share of the BIG West title at stake

The table is set for the Gophers to grab a share of the BIG West title with a win over the Badgers.

Let's review the past just a bit......

The last time the Gophers shared a title was in 1967, when they shared it with Purdue and Indiana.
As it stood, Indiana was given the chance to go to the Rose Bowl due to Big Ten rules at the time.
The Gophers were so upset at not getting to go to the Rose Bowl that they could have cared less about
the title. In response to that severe ingratitude, the sport of college football said, "Fine. If you're gonna be that
way we'll make sure you don't get a share of another for another fifty years!"

1990, 1999, 2003, 2014, etc, etc

Only Gopher fans would find a way to bi%@& about sharing a title. How about we all start a new tradition
and just embrace the opportunity. A title is a title. A banner is a banner. The U refused to accept a share of
the Big Ten title in 1927 although they were perfectly entitled to one under the rules of the time. How about
we start accumulating good experiences?

Let's get the Axe as well as a share of the title and be HAPPY about BOTH.

Let's just win the Axe. Thinking it's anything more is just dumb.

Wisconsin would be 5-1 in the division.

Win the damn axe. That should be all the motivation the team needs.

Ya but

Their lone loss would be to the Gophers. No doubt winning the axe is paramount but how many times can the Gophers say they tied for first place in football anytime recently? I don't care how clumsy, to me, tying for the Big Ten west title is also a "big" deal.

The Gophers really didn't need much help to keep them from a share of the division/conference title the last 49 years sad to say. They've been there own worst enemy.

Go Gophers!!

Had a dream that WI stalled on their final drive to lose the axe. Let's hope it comes true!

Anyone that doesn't understand the significance of a co-championship might need to reconsider. The Axe
travels back and forth. You might have it for a year and then you don't. The banner stays up for good.

I am old enough to remember a long, long stretch where we never considered WI much of an obstacle in football. Oh sure, there was always that "puncher's chance" due to the proximity of the two programs, but we regularly hammered 'em in both Memorial Stadium and Camp Randall. I'm expecting the recent momentum in their favor to swing back in ours. Let this day be the start of it!

1963 thru 1977, Gophers won 10 lost 5? Or 1984 thru 1994 when Minnesota won 8 out of 11, including 4 straight? Or if you were REALLY old, from 1933 thru 1949 the Gophers went 15-2 against the Badgers, including a 9 game winning streak.

Streaks end. Let's end this one today.

The two inexcusable losses to start the conference slate rear their head. Wisconsin should be worried about winning to tie us.

Let's see them do this Gophers! Get you some Bucky hide end, and tear into that butt. Would be pretty cool to hang a "new" banner in TCF next to the 1967 one.
Gophers have a chance, SKI-U-MAH!
