Thread title one for the ages, Bob.

While things are trending down on the pandemic front, the debate over origins and the idiotic hubris of GOF research is heating up.

I for one appreciate the updates. The silent masses surely agree.
I definitely appreciate SON's updates and used to read them daily. However, as the virus wanes, I find myself less inclined to "tune in" daily and find myself checking in only occasionally. I realize it is not zero work to do the daily updates - along with editorial commentary. Not that you care, SON, but I would be perfectly happy - and appreciative - of a weekly summary.

There is always Dr Ding’s feed for daily pandemic updates, should SON retire.

SON is a legend for the work he has put in both here and on the FB board (maybe basketball too, not sure as I have never followed there). We are lucky to have him on GH.

SON - you have already gone above and beyond. I read your updates daily, but we can all find the data if interested. You just allow us to be lazy 😁. Appreciate the effort.

Thes people are 8-10 months behind the known evidence; an infinite ouroboros of irrational fear, safety-ism, and liability avoidance.

Prior (natural) infection as effective versus reinfection as vaccination in a large prospective study of UK health care workers. Why are prior infected or antibody positive being urged to receive a full two dose vaccination? Will policy makers follow known science?

“Restricting reinfections to probable reinfections only, we estimated that between June, 2020, and January, 2021, after controlling for other risk factors and for a given site, participants in the positive cohort had 99·8% lower risk of new infection than did participants in the negative cohort, adjusted IRR (aIRR) 0·002 (95% CI 0·00–0·01). Restricting infections to those who had COVID-19 symptoms, we estimated that participants in the positive cohort had a 93% lower incidence of new infection than did participants in the negative cohort, aIRR 0·074 (95% CI 0·06–0·10).”

“...Using a COVID-19 symptomatic case definition aligned with positive PCR results, previous infection reduced the incidence of infection by at least 90% (aIRR 0·07, 95% CI 0·06 to 0·10). and even when we included all possible and probable reinfections reduced the incidence of reinfection by at least 84% (aIRR 0·159, 0·13–0·19).

We believe this is the minimum probable effect because the curve in the positive cohort was gradual throughout, indicating some of these potential reinfections were probably residual RNA detection at low population prevalence rather than true reinfections.” ...This study supports the hypothesis that primary infection with SARS-CoV-2 provides a high degree of immunity to repeat infection in the short to medium term; with similar levels of prevention of symptomatic infection as the new licenced vaccines for working-age adults. We have also shown that immunity from previous infection is protective against reinfection with the B.1.1.7 variant.

Numbers for Sunday. No report Saturday - was at a family wedding in Wisconsin. Not making this up - the groom chugged a beverage During the Ceremony! Literally right before the vows. Only in Wisconsin. And the board will love this - the officiant was taking about what they all hope to see for the happy couple - the list included "A Republican in the White House."

In light of several studies including the Lancet U.K. healthcare worker study I posted yesterday this can fairly be called misinformation.

Hey, she’s sorry. What more do you want?

Don’t worry she’s changed the rule the day after she broke the rule. Make me wonder if there are not more instances of here breaking her own Covid rules that could come out.

Numbers keep dropping. down to 228 confirmed positive cases yesterday. Under 100 in ICU.
To quote the Beatles:
I've got to admit it's getting better (better)
A little better all the time (it can't get no worse)
I have to admit it's getting better (better)
It's getting better......

Based on current known active cases, 1 in 1,102 Minnesotans have Covid.

Friday "all" Covid restrictions are lifted.

Vaccinations are readily available for anyone who desires them.

Once the school year ends we just need to get rid of the mask mandates for schools (for summer school, basketball, volleyball, academic camps/tournaments, etc.)

And for the love of humanity, full in person mask free school/activities in the fall.

(FWIW - at a local school board meeting Monday, the Superintendent said they are planning for a "normal" school year in the Fall. a lot of desks and tables got moved out of classrooms to accommodate social distancing, and all of that furniture is being moved back this summer.)
