The NCAA is considering allowing five years of eligibility for players in all sports moving forward, per an NCAA official.

Awesome, I’ve always thought the one thing college hockey needs is more 27 year olds playing.

My proposal
If this doesn't pass:
If you come in as a freshman 3 years after you graduate HS, you sacrifice one year of eligibility. (The Lucia Proposal)

If this does pass:
If you come in 3 years after you graduate HS, sacrifice 2 years of eligibility
If you come in 2 years after you graduate HS, sacrifice 1 year of eligibility

To my knowledge this is not even an issue in every other college sport, is it?

I can’t blame people for not taking college hockey seriously when rosters are full of 25+ year olds.

It's not an issue with other sports and we are going to look like idiots with all the 21 year old Canadians coming in every year and resulting in 18 year old freshmen playing 26 year old fifth year Canadians a few years down the road.

I’d rather the clock just start right when you graduate regardless of if you’re from the US, Canada, or Timbuktu. There’s no reason for why we’ve turned college hockey into this with the explosion of junior hockey to Now where D3 teams are requiring several years of juniors.
