Anyone notice how we have no credibility in the media (consistently low conference ranking predictions via assorted media outlets/blogs) this season even though we are basically bringing back the same team minus one significant producer? I know we lost five straight and have new coordinators, but this team has absolutely too much going for it, and we know some new guys are going to step it up big time; that's inevitable in the college game. We have dark horse written all over our buck-toothed gopher heads, and we going to turn some heads this season. Next weekend cannot go soon enough!

GO GOPHERS

We have had "too much going for" us several times in the last decade. The media doesn't pick us to be near the top because come November we never are at the top.

Winning for a year or two would solve that quickly. The media is fickle.

We have not earned it. I don't blame the national media for not having a high opinion of us. We have shown for years that we are a poor to very good team that has not got the job done when we needed to. If Brew keeps on recruiting and the guys get coached up... who knows. I hope this is the year. The lack of local media coverage in general bothers me. That is another matter.

Exactly.

Having a bunch of players back that lost its last 5 games by an average of 37-15 and allowed 417yds and managed just 270 doesn't deserve much respect. What have the Gophers done since then to change that?

There are a ton of ?'s with this team but its obvious that Brewster needs to put better talent on the field. New faces at 3 of 5 OL spots could be a move in the right direction. Maybe this will finally be the year but I have been saying that for decades.

The media is right. Maybe for once they will be wrong.

the metro is all about the viqueens. and with princess favre in town local gopher coverage has gone down the toilet. the casual fan wants the nfl coverage due to fantasy football and all that. the media doesnt care that the gophers are a much better team than a year ago because they believe we will have a worse record than last year because of our schedule. i think if we can pull the huge cal upset, have a winning record in the big ten, and beat both iowa and wisconsin, brewster will get some much needed love.

Media

When Mase was coach the Masonites constantly complained about the media. They talked about how negative the media was. The Masonites were planning to sign petitions, go on hunger strikes, or march down university avenue in protest. They said the media was unfair. I'm going to tell you now what I told the Masonites. If you want to shut the media up, then win!

It's not just the Gophers - but the entire Big Ten that's not being shown any love this year by the media. But losing so many bowl games will do that.

Frankly, the best way for the Big Ten (and the Gophers) will come from OSU winning over USC and the Gophers over Cal. (As well as the other non-conference games.) If they can get that done, the Big Ten will be back on the national stage.

As far as the Gophers go - have a good year in the conference, then start worrying about the national outlook.

I know we're not a national media darling. I accept that since we really haven't done anything for so long. But I've been noticing a trend upwards of both local and national coverage. We've got two candidates on national watch lists for awards and Brewster often get noticed for his recruiting ability. As far as predictions go, at first i took issue with how poorly placed we were and then as i tried to come up with a counter scenario that wasn't homerish I had to concede that preseason wise they probably had us ranked about right. I however am looking forward to surprising some pundits.

I agree with you Frozen..

If anybody that thinks we're not better off than last year and won't win more games than last year, well, they can go f themselves. There are so many pitiful crapheads in this world that don't know what the hell they're talking about. I like the fact that we will need to earn our respect with the national media - that is how it should be. But I'm telling you, we've got the goods and from what I've seen, the team has a quiet confidence and a workmanlike attitude in addition to being bigger, stronger and faster. And that should scare the heck out of our opponents. I can't wait to see them start hitting people. I will be in Syracuse to witness the carnage.
