per The Ledger:
If college football has taught Eric Carter anything, it's been patience.
When the former Lake Gibson star left for Minnesota in 2012, he never could have imagined what the next three years would bring. He redshirted as a true freshman in 2013, played sparingly last season before finally carving out a role as a receiver this season.
But then Carter and the Gophers went through one of the craziest seasons in college football. They fell short of upsets against TCU, Michigan Ohio State and Iowa as head coach Jerry Kill was forced to retire midseason due to health problems.
They'll be one of three, highly criticized, 5-7 teams playing in bowl games this month, but Carter doesn't care. His first real season may have been filled with adversity, but it's been worth the wait.
“Coach Kill and the coaching staff used to tell us how football is more than just a game and how it'll apply to life after your done playing,” said Carter. “Having persevered through all of these struggles, it was tough, but it brought us together and showed us how to persevere through hard times.”
