I'm really looking forward to the USC game. I'm not so sure they wont beat us 42-14, but what they hey.
There are a lot of angles to this game. What will Lil' Lane do to irk us? What kind cheers will we hear? I liked the Sactions, Sanction, clap-clap-clap. A buddy of mine is having a custom Henderson USC 77 jersey made. There will be a lot of fun things to banter about. But, the band has to play Rocky Top. Play it after our first score. Or, better yet, as we're not guaranteed of a score, play it in pre-game warmups! Bush league? Yep! :D

Pretty bad investment

Too bad we wont get the chance to chant "overrated". I hear they won't be ranked at all this year.

In the coaches' poll. I don't believe the AP has declared their intentions in this matter either way as of yet.

There should be some pretty good chanting that game. It should be interesting. I just hope the game itself is still interesting into the 4th quarter.

I don't think that we'll blow them out that early.

Yes, Rocky Top has to be played. Also, USC´s D was a sieve for most of last year (see 50+ points against Stanford, Oregon State debacle, etc). So whether or not we win I´m sure we score at least 20 points.

I have a weirdly good feeling about this game. I´m actually less nervous about this game than I was about Cal last year. USC isn´t bowl eligible which means all they have to play for is the Pac-Ten title. That´s it.

You think the most pampered group of athletes this side of France´s World Cup team, coached by the most arrogant entitled jerk in the history of our state, is going to show up in full force against us?

I just don´t see it happening. This game will be too close to call.

Rocky Top would be WONDERFUL. I'll see if I can do anything about this. Love the idea.

Per the director himself, "It's been on the playlist for quite some time."

Ah, yes, Rocky Top. Gopher fans everywhere were scratching their heads over all the furor from Alabama fans over this. If they were so infuriated by the state of Tennessee, maybe they should have declined to play a bowl game there. :D They just couldn't imagine that the Alabama-Tennessee rivalry just isn't that high on people's radars up here. And the idea of smacking a team by playing the song of another team's rival just seems odd. If an opponents bad started playing On Wisconsin, we'd be scratching our heads - unless it was the Bud Bowl in Milwaukee, then we would understand.

People up here know the song Rocky Top, and know it from before it was adopted by the University of Tennessee. We didn't think of it primarily as Tennessee's fight song.

I believe the band played it there under the pretense that it was a state song of Tennessee and they were playing it to honor our hosts of the Music City Bowl. If it was played at TCF against USC, there is no other reason than to be dicks, and that's best left to the student section not an organization that is run by the U.

Come on, lighten up, have a little fun. It's poking fun, it's not like we're...chanting F*** Bo Ryan. Haha.

Wagner, you should know by now that fun is no longer allowed in band.

It died around 2006; thanks a lot Wisconsin.

I hope none of what you sugested happens. Just beat them if you want to get under their skin.

Better yet, don't even cheer or wear team colors. Actually, I think everyone should wear team colors since they are so similar to USC colors, and I think we should do everything possible to accommodate them.

Minnesota has been far too polite for far too long. I don't expect the fans to become huge jack-holes (like some of our neighbors) but this is certainly not over the top.

Do you go back to your badger boards and chastise the student section there for their vulgar chants?

i guess I don't but it doesn't come up much. My point is that if the gophers win that's all you'll remember 30 years from now. And if you're thrilled to see the pain and frustration on Kiffins face you'll see it when they lose. Clever chants and taunts will be nothing new to these players and coaches and to them it's a reenforcement of why they went to USC in the first place. If you don't believe me look at mike Garrett's weird quote about everyone 'wanting to be 'trojans'.

Sorry if I came off 'holier than thou'. Didn't mean to. Also I think the students can do whatever they want. My point was that I'd prefer to see the band and general seating area refrain from unprovoked taunting.

The band also played "Yellow Rose of Texas" after beating Oregon in the Sun Bowl the previous year, though that isn't nearly as vivid in my memory as standing on top of my seat singing "Rocky Top" and waving good-bye to the Alabama fans at the end of the MCB.

If anything, should we somehow win, something like Randy Newman's "I Love L.A." would be more appropriate.
