Every time someone suggests The Gophers should play late season games in U.S. Bank stadium, I alway weigh in with my disagreement. I love TCF Bank Stadium and have always said the only way the Gophers should consider the other Bank is if the game didn’t count against their home schedule. In other words, if it was a “neutral site” game like some early season non conference flames we have seen hosted in Dallas, Atlanta, etc.

But, I never anticipated 2020 covid no fans games. If there aren’t going to be fans, would it make sense to move Dec games across the river??

We should NOT pay money to use a stadium when we have a budget gap.
If it’s free minus operating costs I’d be okay with it

Depends on player safety. If the field can’t be put in good condition for Dec games, move it (if possible).

Cold weather should be an advantage for us so I don't see the point in moving inside.

Maybe if it gets dangerously cold but the Vikings played in with a -6 degree air temperature and -25 degree air temperature and there weren't any issues outside of the gjallarhorn cracking and Blair Walsh being Blair Walsh.

If anything I'd think outside would be safer as people would be much more motivated to keep their faces covered.

That’s why the state should have built a shred stadium for the gophers and Vikings. If either said they didn’t want that tell them beat of luck you won’t get any money from us. Mark
My words that in 10 years the gophers will tire of playing at TCF bank and want to play games at US Bank stadium.

Worse post I've read today on here, which is quite the accomplishment. Cheers!

Ridiculous. Shared shared stadiums do not work and that has been proven many times. Nobody gets tired of their stadium when it profitable...

The first thing I do every morning before I brush my teeth is thank God the Gophers to not have to share a stadium with the Vikings.

the last thing I do every night before I go to bed is recall the atmosphere for the last two home sellout games last season and wonder if anyone could ever suggest the Gophers play home games off campus again.

US Bank is not a great stadium IMO

when full, the ratio of space to number of people who need to fit through the space is worse than the metro dome

I am thinking the use of the stadium in this unusual case would cost less than turning on the lights and field heaters/coils at the bank. Us Bank will benefit as will the Vikings brand with the extra look on Saturdays. The PR for both is huge. There would be a "special price". No changes to the field or signage either.

I won’t argue with you there. It’s terribly constructed and to get a burden or beer is like going through a corn maze. There is no reason they could not have spend a billion dollars on a stadium that both the Vikings and gophers like.

Why don’t they work? If it’s a state owned venture with both tenants leasing the building there is no problem. The problem with the metronome is that the Vikings got all the suite money for the twins games. I’m not sure about the gopher games.

It’s 2.6 miles away and who’s to say they could not have built a domed stadium in the campus site.

It’s fine in some cases. UCLA, Pitt, Miami, come to mind. Other cases, Washington, Minnesota, Georgia Tech, they preferred an on campus stadium as opposed to the much more luxurious NFL stadium a few miles from campus.

Not sure how it works. If the u or m is saving money playing there I’d be okay with it. I do not think they should spend extra money playing there

Those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it.

Guys - fans probably won't be allowed, or at least very few this season, so they could play in a warehouse as long as it's set up for TV. So where the Gophers play doesn't matter - there's no home field advantage. US Bank Stadium isn't booked for anything other than empty Vikings games. If in this unusual season games go into December and the weather is awful, there is no reason they shouldn't play a game or two in US Bank. The whole "cold weather advantage" may have meant something for Vikings-Rams playoff games in the 1970's, but it's nonsense today.

And it's not like the university doesn't have a relationship with US Bank Stadium. It was required in the funding that it be able to be used for early season Gopher baseball. When hopefully we can get out of this horrible situation by next season, we can get back to TCF Bank stadium, but this year, we need to be happy we get any Gopher Football no matter where it is played.

I don’t get how playing games at US Bank would help us in any way unless maybe our only offense is passing. Even then, the optics of sharing an off campus stadium with an NFL team to people unfamiliar with the program are bad. Let’s show off our beautiful stadium and campus even if no fans are in the seats.

"We're here in Minneapolis LIVE ... and it is a blizzard!! The entire campus is covered in a foot of snow, and it is freezing out here from an arctic blast! I can't believe any student would apply to this university!"

Hard to imagine that doesn't apply .... to TCF anyway....

NFL seating needs are much greater than the gophers. The dome worked but there were too many empty seats left to be sold to Iowa and Wisconsin fans. It killed the game day atmosphere. I am so glad TCF is the size it is and we can fill it up. The atmosphere outside the stadium is fantastic and its ON CAMPUS!!!!

Not sure I follow you.

I generally agree with Delaware's point. Just saying, particularly late in the season, that "advertising to prospective students" point, could backfire a bit.
