I avoided joining fan boards in the past.

The negativity and coach bashing on this board are incredible. I joined this board for the first time in October during the coaching search because I thought it would be a good source of information and would give me a chance to connect with other fans who love the Gophers as much as I do. I have been an avid supporter since 1990 when I finished playing football for the Gophs under Gute, and in spite of many years of frustration watching the men's hoops and football teams, I have never wavered in my support of the maroon and gold. While I realize no one knows who I am, or even cares for that matter, I need to say that my experience here has been a huge disappointment thus far. I usually leave this board irritated or disappointed with the negative comments, and, quite often ludicrous critiques leveled at the coach and certain players by a very vocal minority.

I would like to take this opportunity to say two things. First, shame on many of you who have nothing better to do than contribute toward the cancerous environment that has surrounded Gopher athletics for as long as I have been involved. You do your best, either unknowingly or knowingly, to ensure that our program continues to stay surrounded in a cloud of negativity that helps prevent it from taking a step forward. :( Second...adios. For the good of my own social and mental health, and so that I can go back to cheering for my team free of the negativity I had to endure from the media when I was a player here, I am signing off for a while...probably permanently. I would rather cheer alone and be driven by the hope of what is possible than follow with many and be sucked into a never ending spiral of anger and despair. I love myself and my team too much for that.

Wishing Gopher fans everywhere more happiness than we are currently experiencing,

p.s. My apologies in advance for not responding to any comments (positive or negative) you may have to my thread.

GO Gophs!!!

hendo...you don't have to leave. I won't because it always gives me another damned reason to drink beer.

To be honest, I hate the negativity as much as the next guy, but all message boards are the same. They're filled with people who have knee-jerk reactions after bad losses, who are pessimistic, and very negative at times. That's not just message boards, that's the internet as a whole. If you can't stick it out, and it appears you can't, you're probably better off away from the keyboard, to be honest. Not trying to drive you away, or anything. We need more positive voices. But there's always going to be negativity.

Exactly, and if you were to look back at the knee-jerk reaction posts that were made after most losses, they're pretty much all by the same group of people. At this point, I stay clear of here right after a loss. They're are a lot of great posters here and most of the time this is a great place for discussion and information. When times are bad, it can get out of control unfortunately.

It's ok to be negative, especially at a time like this. But throwing out outlandish things like "this team is no more talented now than when Tubby took over" is very annoying.

Gotta agree with ya, jmag. The negative reactionaries are here to stay unfortunately. I try to stay rpositive if for no other reason than to Hendo - If you find this too much to bear, then don't waste your energy trying to wade around in here. Or perhaps just duck in when things are up. Either way just keep supporing the Gophers. You don't need to be one of us 'mouth-breathers' here on Gopherhole to be a great fan!

Looking forward to the predictable "Fire Kill" threads after USC blows us out in Pasedena come September. Oh, wait - was that negative? Or just realistic?

At any rate - I loves my Gophers, win or lose.

One does not need A Damned Good Reason To Drink Beer.

Any bad reason will do just fine.

You are absolutely correct. I am editing my post to say... "It gives me ANOTHER damned reason to drink beer."

So if you had your way every post would be all fluffy and loving of the Gophers even if they are downright dreadful like the football team and basketball teams. What would be the fun in that? There would be no reason to have message boards without differing opinions and emotions. Don't you think?
