I thought this was interesting for several reasons. (1) How Richard may have been helping dad the last couple weeks. If you remember, he got credit regarding an earlier Louisville game. (2) What the posters think of our coach.

Just to name a couple points...anyway...I found it interesting.

Louisville fans emotions are running high right now. They are looking for anyone to thank for a championship. Maybe Richard did have a part in it, but I think they just view Richard as one of their own right now, and want to give him some recognition. For now, he is ours, so I am sure some people here will attempt to give him credit as well.

Some interesting posts:

"I heard Tubby interview with Tim Brando yesterday and Tubby was kind of sour acting when Brando asked him about Pitino Jr stepping in there. He was saying how hard it is to coach there because of the facilities and all the normal excuses. Then he indicated that Richard doesnt know what hes getting into there and he's going to be going up against some big time coaches in that league. I always liked and respected tubby but i kind of lost a little for him after hearing that interview."

"He just got canned after leading a lower level Big 10 school to the tournament 5 of the past 6 seasons (or something like that). I get why he's bitter -- I'll give him a pass."

"Wow. That surprises me. Very unlike Tubby. I guess I can't blame him for being mad that he got the boot after making Minnesota decent again and then being replaced by a 30 year old coach."

"I actually don't think Tubby was being bitter. Minnesota has been criticized for the exact things that Tubby said."

Why didn't anyone wake me up for our 5 tourney appearances?! Some friends you are.:confused::thumbup:

Thanks for the post and link. Great stuff!

"You don't know what you've got till it’s gone" Poor Tubby we did him wrong!

It is really scary how many people have definite opinions about stuff they know nothing about.

Well, one of the things I appreciated about Tubby while he was here was his candor - whether we liked the message or not. I appreciate his candor in the cited interview, too. Guys get ripped for not saying anything in interviews, and they get ripped for saying what's on their mind. I'll take a guy that tells me what's on his mind.

The interesting part to me was his admission of how good the coaching is in the conference and how much of a meat grinder conference play is. He almost admits that coaching against those other Big Ten coaches was too much for him when he essentially says, if I couldn't do it, how is this kid going to?

The other telling thing in the post was, "Very unlike Tubby." Yes, I would say most of us have had that reaction to the Tubby experience at the U, at least in terms of what we expected versus what he turned out to be. I will always have a lot of affection for the guy and feel rotten that it didn't work out here and that he was fired. But to me the root of that was that his performance was "very unlike" the Tubby we expected.

Oh yeah, and I think the cutest part is how all the Cardinal fans have young Richard's career arc planned out. The best laid plans of mice and men.

Well, could have mustered some affection early on, but by the time it was all over, not so much. Good players transfer, inexplicable game decisions, undeveloped talent. I have no gratitude for a coach whose teams wheels fall off late in the season and has no better answer for it than pointing fingers at players.

Tubby will maybe realize at some point that this wasn't the conference within which he could enjoy his retirement annuity. He'll try again for the first couple of years at TT and then it will be wash, rinse, repeate.
