I'm sure you guys know about the daily gopher, the sbnation gopher blog, but Buck Bravo has a great article over there on the current state of the Gopher basketball program. His basic point is that the team has been a disappointment, but the people blaming Tubby don't seem to realize that the team is only a disappointment because of how the expectations were for this team, and that critics aren't properly taking into account how devastating the off-the-floor problems have been to this team. I'd strongly encourage everybody to give it a read.

He lost a lot of validity in the article when he talked about the impact of Devron Bostick. Other than a couple of baskets @ Wisc last year he has never shown any signs of having any impact on this year's team.

Sure, 3 years ago, most of us would have taken 14 wins, 6 games to go, and Tubby as the coach.

But circumstances are different. He returned a full lineup of players from an NCAA Tournament team.

Now, was last year's team a great team? No. Were they good? Maybe. They won a TON of close games. @CSU, @Wisc, @Iowa, @Indiana, & Wisc are just a few of the games that could have EASILY gone the other way last year. Those are the type of games that, other than @ PSU, we have lost this year.

That said, you are what your record is, and I think Tubby & Maturi do deserve heat for the performance this year based on the circumstances that changed from 3 years ago.

How does Maturi deserve heat for the basketball disppointment? Tubby deserves some heat for sure, but Maturi didn't let the same players regress from last year.

No One More Disappointed Than Team And Coaches

I'd think they are more disappointed than anyone else.

I'd think they are more disappointed than anyone else.

I think there are at least a dozen coaches/teams that could say that this year. NC, UCLA, UCONN, WASH, etc. It happens, it's not a pattern, yet...
