Last year two of the three best teams in the Big Ten were off our schedule: Penn State and Michigan State. This year, two of the three worst teams are off our schedule: Indiana Michigan.

Northern Illinois and FAU have been replaced by California and Air Force. A MAC road game was replaced by a BCS road game. Montana State (7-5) is replaced by a SDSU, who will compete to win the FCS National Championship, and already has 7 wins.

If the scedules are too different to be of any use in comparision how can we compare the statistical rankings?

Excellent point... This is why overall the team is better than it was last year.

Heavily skewed because of 2 games.

Or heavily skewed because of such a poor Gopher performance in those two games? (Isn't that the same kind of argument as saying a RBs ypc average is skewed by a couple of long runs? Of course it is! ;) ) It's one thing to say that PSU and OSU are better than the Gophers (they are) - but to dismiss the ytd stats because the Gophers far underperformed even our limited expectations for them in those two games? Seems awfully convenient.

Bottom line - I am posting these stats with no agenda - GHers will interpret them however they choose. That's my intent actually - to see what sort of discussion the stats will generate. Let's keep it up!

Bump for the Friday crowd - I always like to keep these kinds of stats in my head as I watch the game each week. It helps to have some sense of a baseline to work with when I look up at the scoreboard stats during the game.

Encouraging to see improvements re O stats...still the worst penalized team in the BT and I assume that's something the staff/team is working hard to overcome.

A loss due to more of what Brew calls "self-inflicted wounds"...what GHers call stupid mistakes...would be difficult for GN to swallow.
