The Outstanding Offensive Freshman of the Year award was presented to Curtis Dunlap Jr., while Braelen Oliver was recognized as Outstanding Defensive Freshman of the Year.

The Offensive Scout Team Player of the Year was Johnny Santaga, while DeAngelo Carter was honored as Defensive Scout Team Player of the Year. The Special Teams Scout Player of the Year was awarded to Derik LeCaptain.

It's cool the team recognizes these guys as starters. Aren't there 6 special teams units though? Punt Cover, Punt Block, Place Kicking, Place Kick Block, Kickoff Cover, Kickoff Return (and maybe a 7th for onside kicks?)

I hadn't heard of this banquet since Ron Johnson got in trouble with the Gophs for pokin fun at it. It does look like it is a pretty good event and run really well. How times change.

Much deserved recognition. I like the problem of having too many candidates for awards! I feel bad that I lumped punts into our kicking game probems - I didn't realize how good they were - but then again, I don't think we punted very often Seth getting the character award two years in a row is nice validation after the mud he was dragged through. I'm assuming a year ago people would not have picked Schlueter for the O line award. Well done guys!
