per Marcus:

"If football is successful, it can drive the engine to help everybody else," said Teague, formerly AD at Virginia Commonwealth. "It's got to be a tremendous priority. We've got a great coach in Jerry Kill. The other asset we have is a new stadium. People don't build new stadiums in college athletics anymore, especially at the Big Ten level. There are things in place. There are a lot of assets in place that can really keep us evolving into the future."

To focus on football would mean basketball needs might not get addressed right away.

After reading the article, it is unclear to me if the statement above was made by Teague or if it is Marcus' assumption. I don't view Teague as someone that can only work on one project at a time.

Definitely an assumption by Marcus, Teague didn't say that. But obviously, SOMETHING gets priority #1, so by default, if football is that #1, that means basketball is not. To me though, that doesn't mean both can't get done in a reasonable amount of time. It's not like he's gonna put the practice facility aside and focus only on football needs.

Am a basketball guy first, but I think football should be Teague's #1 priority. No complaint here. Football is the best engine if we can get it going. Men's basketball a strong second.

An aside from the article in the Strib the other day interviewing Teague. ... based on his comments, reading between the lines I'd be very concerned/afraid if I was the head coach of of a non-revenue sport, especially the ones that have already been on the chopping block. He didn't exactly give a ringing endorsement for keeping all the non-revenues.

Given his past history, I'm not worried about his commitment to the basketball program. To me, football is the weaker of the two right now, so it needs to be addressed first. But basketball will get its dues in due course, especially if Teague is as good with the donors as I think/hope he is.
