Teague on Tubby extension: "Hopefully it's something that will be done very soon."

“I think we’re pretty far down the road on that and I’ve felt good about that, getting him solidified there and completing that process,” Teague said. “It’s not done yet but hopefully it’s something that will be done very soon.”

Go Gophers!!

Well deserving for a coach of his quality when it happens.

per Doogie:

"It's the story that just won't go away: the Tubby Smith contract extension. A "U" source indicates it'll still get done, but the point of contention remains the buyout after next season. Currently the buyout is $1.5 million. The "U" wants to maintain that number, or even lower it. Tubby's attorney is trying to get it raised. The "U" just wants to protect itself in case a third consecutive year occurs. The Gophers have finished 6-12 in the Big Ten in each of the last two years."

Wash, rinse, spin, repeat cycle.

Both parties should shut up and just notify us when both have signed on the dotted line.

Since about the time we could get an ice cold 7 ounce bottle of Coca Cola out of the vending machine for a dime.

But if you went to the vending machine inside the bottling plant it was only a nickel. Sucker.

I'm with the U on this one, it's Tub-Tub dragging his feet. He hasn't earned a higher buyout at the UofM.

It's Tub-Tub dragging his feet.

That's my impression, too.

But let's all continue to blame this (and everything else) on Joel Maturi, 'cause he's the reason the U has pretty much defined middlin' B1G basketball/football ("middlin'" perhaps is generous) since the mid-60's.

(tongue in cheek)

I'm trying to think of another Gopher coach(FB or BB) that has been surrounded by this much drama.

1. Is he or isn't he a candidate for the job at such and such school-and will he take the job if offered.

2. This seemingly endless discussion of a contract extension.

I could use some help. Yes I know, maybe a lot of help.

I disagree, 19. Many of us misunderstand you completely.

per Shooter:

"Pssst: Tubby Smith has been close to agreeing to a contract extension since December, but a little birdie says the holdup has been compensation and security for his assistant coaches."

I have a feeling that once the things in contention get taken care of, Tubby may find other things to address before signing an extension. All the things mentioned may be symptoms rather than the disease itself or the indirect manifestations of more fundamental disagreements between the parties, whatever they are.

No extension perhaps says something about Tubby's future with us. 1) If we bomb another season, oh well.. 2) If we make a Sweet 16 run or achieve something equally meaningful for conference play (which assumes a lot of good things from Dre in order for that to happen), Tubby will have to entertain offers from elsewhere. Considering our roster (sans TM and Rodney), future recruits, compensation, job environment including the local media and the fanbase, etc., some offers may be more attractive to him than ours. If he does packing, Dre may go with him, and we may be back to the ground zero or close to it. 3) If we finish, say, 6th in the conference and log a win or less in the Tourney, then Tubby may stay.

Thanks, Bleed, for the constant updates on the Gophers issues.
