What a difference the two new fields have made. As to the Gophers we are talking about large money for a quality HC. Four years ago we were cheeping out for a tight ends coach from the NFL.

Four years ago the Twins gave up on Santana and Hunter. Last year they signed Joe Mauer for life.

Couple thoughts on this topic.

I will agree completely on your thoughts on Target Field. It has given the Twins the income it needs to spend bigger money than in the past to keep a team strong. The Twins payroll is at an all time high and they are making enough money to seek improvements to it for year 2.

TCF Bank stadium is great and is one of the nicest stadiums in the Big Ten. After that I am not so sure how much it has actually helped the program do anything. We are offering more money to a coach but that has not increased the interest in the job. We are not seeing some Tubby like hire coming to Minnesota. The increase in money is not drawing in the interest one would hope it would.

How have the top BCS conference schools done after building new stadiums? I dont have a list in front of me and cant think of all that many over the last few years I think Louisville and UCONN have built new stadiums over the last decade and they have not really turned into powers. I am not sure TCF Bank stadium has turned the program around either. It is a great stadium dont get me wrong but it is far from the cure all to the Gophers problem.

If the Vikings can get an open air stadium with natural grass somewhere in the north suburbs, MN sports will finally be as they should be.

The stadium is built for the money it generates, the fans, and the players. It is a very cool place to watch football.

With playing football in baseball stadiums being the latest fad, how long till we have a Gophers game at Target Field?

Missed the point.

TCF Bank stadium is great I never said anything against it. My comments were more based on the fact that the stadium alone doesnt result in improvement or a better coach or anything other than an increased game day atmosphere though losing takes away from that as well. TCF Bank stadium is a terrific place to see a game and to play I am sure. That being said it doesnt on its own improve the program. I think as we go around the country new stadiums have not given the huge boost to programs over the course of years as their fans would have hoped.

Trust me I am not taking a shot at the stadium itself it is tremendous addition to the Gopher Football team but it is not a cure all. We still have plenty of empty seats and the students still fail to show up game in and game out which a new on campus stadium was supposed to solve. In the end it doesnt matter where you play its if you win. Winning on a regular basis has been a struggle no matter where we have played over the last 4 decades.
