The thread on the new-look gopher sports website got me thinking about its poor little sister... the TCF Bank Stadium website.

http://stadium.gophersports.com/

You won't find many websites more outdated than this one. Most of the material dates back to the days when the stadium was under construction. You can learn about the U2 concert being rescheduled and you can also get some wallpaper for your computer consisting of photos that were taken before the inner wall even had brick on it.

It used to have 2 webcams of the stadium, then it was down to 1, and finally that 1 was bumped in a way that it only showed part of the stadium and mostly apartment buildings in the background. And then that webcam came down completely a year or more ago.

It would be fun to have someone take 20 minutes and fix it up.

Well, at least they finally got the Tours page up to date to note that it's group tours only.

I wish that webcam still worked. It was always exciting to see the bleacher chairbacks getting installed. That's when I knew football was just around the corner!

I am not normally one to dig up old threads and I have been known to rip on those that do. But in this case, after visiting the TCF Bank Stadium website again on a Friday whim, I see that there still hasn't been a change to anything including the U2 concert announcement since I started this thread in August...

I also noticed there are upcoming promotions for games in 2010.

I agree. In the grand scheme of things this does not matter much. But if you are going to keep the webpage up, you might as well maintain it a little bit. Otherwise just take it down and be done with it.

Find some computer science students and give them a couple credits to update the web page. They get something to put on their resume, and the Gophers' web presence moves into the 21st Century. There is too much that never gets communicated to the public because web pages are never updated. This web page should have the 2012 football schedule, not the 2011 football schedule.

If you want to book a stadium tour, you have to click on a PDF, and print out the file and mail it in. That is right out of the stone age. You should be able to do that online. Not only that, the link to the PDF file is broken. So not only can you not book the tour online, you can't book it offline, because you can't get the form.

There should be nothing that requires you to print off a form and mail it in. This is 2012, you should be able to do things online.

And why should there be only group tours? There should be regularly schedules public tours, perhaps monthly. I hope the new regime in the AD moves the web and marketing into the modern era.

Hard to take care of these matters when you only have a 77million budget.

Besides it's only what the public sees, nothing important.

I have a feeling things are going to change big-time in the near future.

"Bad" in the sense that it clearly hasn't been updated since about 1996. "Awesome" in the sense that it's still up and running, though.

Did anyone try contacting someone about it? It looks really bad when someone can't go through it every few months. It doesn't take long.

This is really symptomatic of ow the AD has failed the football program. You have a tremendous resouce in the student body that one could rally around the program. Imagine if you tapped into the creativity of the students to run the various websites, the game day concessions, marketing, etc. it seems to be no-brainer to get cheap labor, while providing hands-on experience to the students. Imagine a resume from a reent graduate that includes exigences like "marketing a 70 million dollar athletic department" or "running multi-million dollar food operation"

I don't understand why the U doesn't tap into this resource. a simple request for some webpage updats would probably have many students apply in return for a few pizzas. Hopefully a new AD can get more creative.

Doing a little research, I don't believe the link you listed here is being used anymore. It's still active, but when you go to gophersports.com and click through facilities, you get to an updated website: https://www.mygophersports.com/Online/default.asp?SessionSecurity::referrer=menu&doWork::WScontent::loadArticle=Load&BOparam::WScontent::loadArticle::article_id=DB023C99-E62C-46B5-9F03-4D54121CFA0D&menu_id=98694B5B-37CF-41AD-A6FF-3DDECCBEEF1F

This was probably changed when they redid the website a year or two ago.

Ugh, then they need to get the old one down. :)

I was at The Works in Bloomington today and the U had students from Civil engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry, and so on volunteering to demo for elementary kids and their parents. I have to believe you could find a couple of marketing/communications/business management types to build their resume with a work study to at least monitor what needs updating and recommend changes to the powers that be for all the various sites for all the programs, academic and athletic

Hard to believe it will already be the 4th season at TCF coming up.
Agree - Seems like just yesterday we were playing Air Force. In 16 more years we will be saying this stadium is outdated and we need a new one.

THe first thing the new AD should change is that idiotic "We Are... Minnesota" tag line that Maturi loved.

+1 I never liked that or the "Go Big Gold" cheer. I mean it's not like we have a unique to us, three syllable phrase that could be used in it's place or anything.
