Tarik Black leaving Memphis

He'll be graduating this spring so he'd be eligible to play right away. Im pretty sure the Hollins' know him as well so that could be an angle to get him here. He's a pretty big kid, but if i remember correctly from the Memphis game, hes very athletic for his size. Would be nice to have an experienced forward on the roster if Buckles can't play.

I'd take him in a heart beat. The Hollins bros would probably be enough to get him here if Pitino wanted him. We'll have to see what happens.

If given the choice between Black and Buckles I would take Black every time, he would definitely make this a legitimate NCAA tourney team next season.

They are actually not brothers. This is well documented.

I kid. I kid.

Black looks like a stud.

I wouldn't go that far at this point. Just because they likely know each other doesn't mean that we would be a lock to land Black if we so choose. It's definitely a plus and gives us an angle to work but it doesn't make us the obvious choice for him necessarily. IMO, the fairly obvious opening at the forward position is as big if not more of a selling point.

You sure? I don't think I ever heard that mentioned once during games this year.

If you ever watched highlights on ESPN then you would have a ton of evidence that they are in fact brothers. Twins even, depending on the highlights.

Well yeah, the PF opening is a given. Didn't think that needed to be pointed out for millionth time. I just remember Dre referring to Black and some of the other Memphis guys as "brothers" since they all played with/against each other in high school and AAU.

Yeah I get that, I just wanted to make sure that it didn't seem like I don't think we are a realistic option. I think that the opening plus the potential relationship with the Hollinsi (as I like to refer to them as) would give us a good shot if we want him, I just don't think it's as open and shut as your initial post made it seem.

So if Pitino wants to run a quick uptempo offense....which one of these two moves better?

Seconded. The guy is a force under the basket and would be a great rebounder in the B1G. Needs to work on free throws, though.

Black is athletic. He can certainly play in an up-tempo system. He's already played in one at Memphis. He's not going to set the world on fire, but he plays good defense and he's tough under the bucket. He would be a better grab then Buckles. He would fill the biggest hole we have. If we can get him for one season I'm on board.

I'm pretty sure Pitino would play Black at the 5 if we got him.

6'7" 230 pounds. Four star player with some athleticism. Sign him up Rich!

Good point. Although, I'm not sure Eliason can thrive under a fast paced system either. In any event, we need athletic big men for this system. Black can play in it. I'm extremely skeptical that any of our current big men can either due to lack of ability (Oto) or lack of athleticism (Mo and to a lesser degree Eliason).

I like the idea of Black and Eliason splitting time at the 5.

Well then even better

Buckles moves better (assuming he's healthy), but I'm sure Black would play center if he came here.

I thought Eliason showed that he could run the floor pretty well by the end of the year. Do you just think Pitino would prefer a faster body on the floor, or do you think Eliason and Black split time at the 5?

I like the way Eliason played this year and I think he can do just fine in Pitino's system, but I would imagine Black would be the starter with Eliason getting plenty of minutes off the bench. Black has had issues with foul trouble, which has made it hard for him to stay on the floor for very long so I can't imagine him getting anymore than 25 minutes per game.

Interesting take. I wonder what Pitino would do. Another option for the 5 makes sense. Any way you cut it, though, Black would be a huge pick up for us.
