A tough combo to beat. Wow!!!! The DE's sealed the deal. McKinley and Willhite.

I was thinking that as well--the talent pool on this team is SO much better than the recent past.

Better yet - talented YOUNG players making plays. These guys have not seen much game playing time, and now are making game-changing plays: Kirksey, McKinley, Wilhite all have had huge turnovers recently. Whaley also had a couple of very nice runs when we needed him to begin the second half.

McKinley is a SR. this year, but the rest have a few years.

Ultimately, if the Defense was feeling a little puffed up, I think this game should encourage them to get back into the weight room and to the chalk board. A couple fumbles at the end of the game, though important, are not as confidence building as being able to hold the other team on downs IMO. The gave up a lot of yards today.

I have been impressed with the physical conditioning of this D-line. NW played an up tempo game and the D-line was still strong at the end of the game. Whereas in years past the D-line would just disappear late in the game.

The comment by announcers at the beginning of the game saying that NW was going to try and wear them out going East West on the running suggests the DL is getting some respect now. THe real encouraging thing is that they did finish strong, so that strategy does not appear to be working.
