This is getting real old. Make it to a bowl, get excited, and watch the team find a way to implode. Mental mistakes, terrible/inexcusable time management, stupid penalties, and being totally out coached. I realize it's right after the game but do people really think the team has taken the next step? Sure doesn't feel like it and miserable bowl performances don't help. This is a game that we had numerous opportunities and pissed them away. What an absolutely horrible way to end the season. Terrible, inexcusable performance.

At best, they've made a minor step forward, and that's because they won five conference games and made it to a better bowl game. But this program is still a long ways off from being a realistic contender.

It's disapointing, yes, but we still have a Pig and a Jug :) I really hope Kill talks to Gary Patterson and decides to change the offense. I also wish the staff would take a few more chances but who are we to say we just played on Jan 1.

Futhermore, I believe we played 3 True Freshman regualarly on the DL. Just think of the future. We could use some more explosion at wide receiver and a better quarterback wouldn't hurt. Plus I really do think that they need to address the offense.

It's one game. I know it isn't easy after watching today's game, but if you look at the big picture the future of this program is really exciting. Imagine how far we've come.

Every year it is about the future. There are no guarantees about the future, i.e. injuries, transfers, we need to win now. Since Kill is getting paid over 2 million a year, winning a bowl game, is not out of line.

I completely agree. I do think we need to win these games and especially in the bowl games but we just lost a really good Missouri team let's not overreact. We killed ourselves we are not talented enough on Offense to turn the ball over like that. We had a great year full of awesome memories. Let's just hope that the staff is open to a bit of change on offense.

Kill got out-coached in the second half today. End of story.

The big picture is wins and losses. And we have the exact same record as last year and another pitiful bowl performance. When moral victories becomes the fourth column in the records/standings, we'll have something to talk about.

Yep, rebounded from Brew to Mase territory. Next is beating the rest of the Big Ten teams, winning 10 games one season and winning a bowl game. Then we'll see if we can take it to the level Mason couldn't.

Yeah. I have no good feelings about this loss. We looked out coached, period.

Let's at least beat Wisconsin and a bowl game.

We are definitely trending up. Lots of young players getting meaningful playing time and doing well. Leidner made strides this year which was nice to see. It is hard to not think of past gopher teams after the last two bowl performances though....

At least they are raising ticket prices.

We're back at Mason level, we'll see if we can go beyond.

Gophers are close but they have to get the QB and defensive line shored up.

Leidner didn't play bad today but he isn't the guy that is going to take us to the next level. The Leidner backers can continue to defend him but nothing speaks more to the state of the QB position than the end of the first half. Kill sat on three time outs and a minute on the clock, when we were down by three. Kill didn't trust his QB to take care of the ball and position them for 30-35 yards to tie the game in a very important game. That is literally the definition of playing scared and you can't have that if you want to be successful.

For me, I think we took a small step forward this year. We did some great things in the regular season, but the bowl loss puts a slight damper on the year.

The real progress will be made next year.

Can Jeff Jones step in and be a stud? Can the three redshirt receivers be playmakers? Can Mitch be the passer he was today and learn how to protect the football? Can the defense absorb the losses of Thompson and Wilson? Can we improve the pass rush?

I have confidence in Jeff Jones (just a hunch). I have confidence in at least 1 or 2 of the redshirt receivers to be contributors. I have confidence that losing Cedric Thompson won't hurt us.

I am worried about the linebackers, defensive line, and quarterback. Those are the three question marks in my opinion. Next year is year 5 for Jerry. Every player on the roster will be his player. Next year is for all the marbles.

Not that worked up about it. Mizzou is a good team. Was way more works up when we lost to Illinois. Season was successful.

They were one half away in the last game of the year from winning the B1G West. I'd call that a "realistic contender."

Many Gopher fans will claim Jerry is the best thing ever and that the team has made a transformation, been brought back, turned around, is a player in the Big Ten, taken the next step, etc...

But would they make the following bet? Pfffft. if they would, I wish they'd talk to me (here or PM)... winner directs loser to make a donation to the tax-qualified organization of the winner's choice (in loser's name so the loser gets a tax deduction.. winner just gets to direct the loser)
My bet: Gophers will not win more regular season games in 2015 than they did in either of the past two years.

The head coach doesn't believe in his team and is ultra-conservative even in a nationally televised bowl game. Sad. Let the kids play. Let the kids compete.

Still think Kill is gone a year from now? You're a troll.

Next year: More conference wins for the football team or road wins for the basketball team?

You're making that up.

and that the team has made a transformation, been brought back, turned around, is a player in the Big Ten, taken the next step, etc...

You're not a Gophers fan so you don't really understand the past. If the Gophers go 4-4 in the Big Ten next year, it will be the most conference wins in a three year span since the early 70's I believe. I don't think we have ever won at least 8 games three years in a row. We were just one game away from going to the conference championship. That is a pretty big deal for this program.

It's still up in the air if he can take the next step to the 9-10 win level, but it's ridiculous to say we haven't taken the next step.

You continue to act like you're so much smarter than everyone else. It wasn't that long ago you told everyone Kill would be fired after the 2015 season. What do you have to say about that?

We have some humps we need to get over. Kill is 0-4 vs. Wisconsin, 0-3 in bowl games, and 0-5 when we have a chance to get to nine wins. We had a nice season, and there was improvement from last year getting to 5-3, but imploding at the end of the first half against Wisconsin and then us beating ourselves with careless and unfocused plays (Leidner not putting two hands on the ball, what the heck was Marcus Jones trying to do on that punt return, still can't believe the way we ended the first half today the way we did) is going to leave a sour taste in my mouth all of season. This is three ugly bowls in a row: late lead collapse against Texas Tech, loss to a bad Syracuse team, collection of dumb and sloppy plays against Missouri.

As I ragged on Leidner's fumbles (which were really bad), I think it is fair to say for most of the game, I thought he through the ball very well. I don't mean well for Leidner, I mean he put together a quality throwing performance, which hasn't been the case for much of the year.

I won't argue that the Gophers got out-coached. But I also believe Missouri has better talent that has played in big bowl games before. Let's be realistic - look at all the other teams that played today and yesterday. Almost every one of them have played in upper tier bowl games for years. You can't tell me it isn't a big advantage for both coaching staffs and players to have done this before. Does that mean we couldn't have won today ? Absolutely not. But remember the last two times the Gophers played on New Years Day ? It was a loss in the first Rose Bowl game and then coming back to win it the next year. Let's hope that's what happens with this Gopher team.
