After watching tem for a few moments - does anyone else think that the Gophs could give them a game?

I love the Gophers, but come on the Wolves would destroy them. Love and Beasley were both top 5 college players the year they played and now they are together? Flanked by Wes Johnson, Corey Brewer (great college player) and numerous others...They'd destroy the Gophers. It would be a fun game to watch though.

Indeed. The Wolves reserves would run away with the National Championship if they played college ball.

No offense to you book, but it's ridiculous when people make statements like this.

No matter how bad the Wolves are, a college team would never beat them. No matter how bad the Gopher Football team is, Eden Prairie, or any high school football team in the nation, would be able to compete with them.

The TWolves have about as much change of losing to the Gophers as the Miami Heat has of losing to the TWolves.

You are awarded zero points and may god have mercy on your soul.

I would love to see the Gophers football team play Eden Prairie. Just a good ol confidence booster. Also a reiteration of the fact that Mike Grant sucks. And smells.

i dont know where you got my name from, but dont come at me when your a grown man and your name is fan of another grown man. :/ yikes

I remember people saying that they thought Florida or Oklahoma could beat the Detroit Lions in 2008 when the Lions didn't win a game. Ridiculous.

many years ago

The college all-stars would play, I think, the NFL champs the year before in Chicago. Although the pros usually won it was very entertaining and I think the college boys did win once.

I dont remember the exact year it was but there was a lot of talk about USC being able to take the 49ers on i believe the year the niners went 1-15 and USC won the title.

If it was a real game where both teams took it seriously, there is no way a college team would beat an NFL team in today's game. I don't think it would be even close.

I hate this line of thinking...

"Oh, I'll bet Eden Prairie could beat the Gophers in football, Hahaha."

Anyone who thinks a HS team could beat a major college team or a major college team could beat a top level professional team knows nothing about sports.

Think of it this way - how many players on the Gophers will even make it to the NBA? 1? 2? And that's being generous. Even a bad NBA team like the Wolves have an entire roster of players at the level that most Gophers will never make it to. Additionally, the wolves players are more mature, older, more experienced, and practice the game for a living.

The difference between the two teams is big.

I think the only sport it might be able to happen is baseball, if a college team had a dominant pitcher, but even then it would be really tough.

Apples to Oranges

I am sure there are instances of college baseball teams defeating pro teams in exhibition. Otherwise while discussing apples to oranges the UCLA freshman BB team defeated the defending NCAA champion UCLA varsity when Kareem was a frosh.

The NFL teams had a record of 31-9-2. The games were competitive early in the series, but the talent level really began to diverge, and the games became less competitive. The series lasted until 1976. I think it it was a game that counted, it wouldn't have even been that competitive, it meant as much as any other NFL exhibition game.

It does seem that there is an "arms race" when people want to smack a team, people keep escalating who the team would lose to, a D-II team, a D-III team, an NAIA team, a Juco, a High school, a junior high school, a pee-wee team, etc.

You have to remember, that even some of the "busts" on the T-Wolves (Beasley, Darko, Brewer) were absolutely dominant at lower levels. Even though Darko may not be good at the NBA level, that still makes him really, really good at basketball.

In defense of book, all he said was that the Gophers might be able to give the Wolves a game.

I tend to think that Tubby and company could keep it close (within 25 points), especially with the longer college shot clock and solid defensive play. Put it this way -- I think it would be a better game than Gophers vs. NE State.

A legitimate game with the wolves tho might be against last years Kentucky team.

And a legitimate game for last year's Kentucky team would be Northern Iowa.:D
