T. Denny gave $10MM today and a banker gave $2.5MM to South Dakota State:

South Dakota State announced at a Saturday press conference before the 100th Hobo Day game that philanthropist T. Denny Sanford and banker Dana Dykhouse, a former Jackrabbits player, will give a combined $12.5 million to start the push to build a new football stadium

Go Gophers!!

I'll say one thing, South Dakota understands how business works. Unlike this state.

Yeah, there are many more successful companies in South Dakota than there are in Minnesota.

This should be sent to the OT. It's irrelevant to Gopher football.

Yeah. South Dakota is sure kicking our ass. We are only number 8 out of 50 in best states to do business in.

Also, remind me. How many fortune 1000 companies are located there? How many people are fleeing Minnesota for South Dakota?

Jesus get more overly defensive about this state, and yes this is definitely off-topic.

For some reason, many posters here feel that the admission that the ND schools, the SD schools, Wisc, Iowa, etc, their fans, their states are not horrible places/people/schools somehow relfects negatively on Minnesota. Simply admitting that there may be something good happening in one of these places doesn't mean anything bad about Minnesota, but there are a number of regular posters who for some unknown reason cannot acknowledge anything good happens ouside of the metro area.

The NDSU football team is having a great run at the FCS level. OH BISON FANS SUCK, THEIR TEAM SUCKS, THEIR STADIUM SUCKS, WHY DO THEY EVEN EXIST?

SDSU got a nice gift. OH SOUTH DAKOTA SUCKS, THIER BUSINESSES SUCK. ETC ETC.

It was all in response to the second post which was beyond preposterous. The Sanford Health debate is worn out, not accepting the quid pro quo doesn't represent a dislike for business in the least. There are are a number of people who only judged the Sanford Health deal by what it could do for U of M athletics via the quid pro quo, never mind the fact that the last line hospital (and arguably most important) in the five state area was going to be sold to an outfit with a limited reputation.

Not true. The comments about business in Minnesota vs. South Dakota were in response to a poster claiming a superior business environment in South Dakota. If South Dakota is such a great place to have a business, why aren't they all flocking to South Dakota? That's not smack, it's responding to smack.

And this is the Gophers board, not the Bison board. If you want to discuss the Gophers on Bisonville, that goes in the "News about other schools" forum. Yet here, it seems that many people think that this should be the Gophers/Bison forum.

I would agree with you, posting about NDSU, or any other school, doesn't really belong on Gopherhole, unless it is directly related to a game the Gophers are playing against one of those schools. I've just never understood why on the mostly rare occassion where those teams or states or fans or whatever ARE brought up, so many of the comments need to be so snarky. I live in Minnesota, I love Minnesota, it's a great place to live and be a sports fan. That doesn't mean there aren't other good places out there though.

It's his money, let him spend it where he wants. No one tells you how to spend yours, unless, of course, you're married.

I found out thru a divorce, that a woman's philosophy is "what's mine is mine, what's yours is ours."

That's because the mods don't delete a lot of those threads. They drive traffic and clicks when NDSU trolls come here so they let them come. GH doesn't get moderated nearly enough to be a good community most of the time. Its all about getting page clicks and that comes at the expense of Gopher fans that want to have any rational discussion about Gopher sports.

Whoa. Wait! What? Are you saying the GopherHolers have rational discussions? Welcome to the world of disillusion.

Another gut punch to norwood. Has he raised a dime yet for his grand plan? Or just talk?

This guy speaks the truth.

Good for SDSU!! They have been wanting to renovate their football complex and now hopefully they can get started.

Maybe we should start focusing and kissing the arse of other alumni and donors. How about....Ron Perlman. The Sons of Anarchy series is a hit, he made a couple successful movies in the Hellboy franchise. I'm sure he can break off some dough for a new lounge. Kidding. Kinda.

Minnesota is home to thirty-something Fortune 1000 businesses. The U has sixth largest student body and alumni in the nation. We can't find another Sanford out of the bunch? They got the baseball stadium built off small donations ($10-$50) in size. Creative. One of the big reasons we brought in Norwood was for his salesmanship and exciting the donation base, right?

All else fails, hit up Loni Anderson and Bob Dylan.

I agree with everything you said. Other than Bob Dylan as a potential anything. As I recall, he went to school at the U for 1 day.

NDSU foundation to back sports arena expansion

FARGO (AP) - The North Dakota State University Development Foundation says it will guarantee funding to expand and renovate a sports facility on campus.

The Sanford Health Athletic Complex and Scheels Center will include seating for more than 5,700 fans for basketball, as well as other workout and sports medicine areas.

The development foundation will back the project up to $41 million. It still needs approval from the state Board of Higher Education and state Legislature.

School officials say renovation of the Bison Sports Arena will give NDSU "a true Division I athletic complex."

Sanford Health has given $10 million to the project and the Scheel family $5 million. School officials announced Thursday that Fargo businessman Jim Ingstad and his wife, Victoria, have committed $1.2 million to the project

Now if they can just get all the hookers and meth dealers working the Bakken oil fields to kick-in, they'll be home free! :drink:

Since everyone on this board seems fixated on comparisions...

SDSU beat Western Illinois 38-14 at WIU, Minnesota won 29-12 vs the same opponent at home.
Nebraskas beat SDSU 59-20...SDSU led 17-14 before the wheels came off, overall offense was 450 yards in Lincoln. Hopefully Minnesota can keep it closer on the scoreboard..but with the Minnesota offense I see 300 yards as a blessing.

... Minnesota product Zach Zenner has 1000 yards rushing in just 7 games

18,000 seats in a city of approx 30,000....not bad.

Maybe "some" or "a few".

Iowa still sucks.
