CC folks, I checked out the Armory Square area. It is right downtown starting at the intersection of Clinton and running down Walton for a block. Bars the entire block on both sides and some cute little back alley entrances as well. It should be good for hanging out. A little pricey for my taste, but not totally foo foo either. Outdoor seating at most of them and plenty busy. I wouldn't call them your classic pre-game football bars a la Iowa City or Madison, but they should work for you since you'll be downtown. A word of caution though, I wouldn't stray too far from that specific block. The downtown area in general is more run down than Mpls or St. Paul. There was a vigil/protest going on about a block and a half from the Armory Square area. Apparently, a couple of weeks ago during a Latino festival, a mob formed and started attacking some African Americans in that area and stabbed one of them to death. I was speaking with the grandfather of the murder victim and he said that while the area was generally safe, one should not be hanging out in the area thinking that nothing bad could happen. So, I'd say don't wander off on your own and watch what you say and no hard looks. I am generally a big risk taker when it comes to exploring cities but it took me about a half an hour before I felt like I knew what I was doing down there and like I say it is only about a block and a half from where you'll be pounding them down,\.

I next went over to the campus which is up a big ass hill but once you get up there it is absolutely a beautiful campus. I took some liberties and was able to drive where I shouldn't have been driving and was able to drive right up to the Carrier Dome. Now I'm not the brightest bulb in the drawer so I guess it should have occurred to me that Carrier refers to the air conditioning company which has a huge presence in this city. I'm going to go back over there tomorrow and walk around campus. Remember that tomorrow is billed nationwide as Wear Your College Colors day.

You'll pay a little more for everything here I think, although I got my digs in East Syracuse for $46 a night and not too bad. There are about 10 hotels in a two block area where I am. If you rent a car and the clerk asks if you want to pay $2.49 a gallon to have them fill it up when you are done with it, take the deal because $2.79 is the lowest I've seen so far.

I had dinner at a nice little family owned restaurant in an old farmhouse called the Green Onion. Reasonably priced and very good pasta dish.

I am looking forward to our defense rolling over the orange. I am also going to use my binoculars for the first offesive play to see if I can see the look on the face of the Orange guy that has to line up across from our 6'7" 375 pound right tackle. LOL. OK, I'll check out the chat room, but the last two times on there it was just me talking to myself.
