If past history teaches us anything, after Kentucky makes the Final Four this year and then has its appearance vacated under Slick Cal, will ESPN (again) celebrate when UK reaches the 2,000-win mark for the 2nd time?

If the penalty is only 'vacated wins' I think it's worth it. If the NCAA wants clean programs it has to inflict severe penalties. Coach Cal will continue to do what he does until he is banned from coaching 'amateurs.'

Agree with you 100% there. If they really want to impose penalties with bite, they'd flat-out ban schools from the NCAA Tournament for 2-3 years, none of this self-imposed 1-year ban crap the schools do (like we did after Ganglegate) to make themselves look remorseful. I would think taking away the NCAA tourney from a school for a few years -- even if unfair to the coaches & kids that follow and had nothing to do with it -- would serve as a pretty decent deterrent. Certainly for those that are repeat serious offenders.

I agree if the coach is found to be involved with the violations. They should serve some sort of suspension (and a lot of them do. Kelvin Sampson and Todd Bozeman come to mind. Both were/are under "show cause" orders from the NCAA) BUT the NCAA doesn't want to use the death penalty. From what I understand, there were people within the NCAA who feel they might have been wrong with what they did to SMU and that the punishment may have been too severe.

Of course, I think the NCAA is a farce to begin with and its rulebook an antiquated joke made to justify this continued myth about amateurism so what do I know?
