Sunbelt Confrence boots Idaho and New Mexico State

??? NMSU was in the WAC in all other sports, so independent like before. UofM don't give a sh!t.

Thanks for your input and the profanity. Teams changing Confrences are interesting to me. Idaho already has an offer to join a FCS confrence (Big Sky). New Mexico State will land somewhere.

I didn't think Idaho ever belonged in a conference called the sunbelt anyway.

Idaho should go back to FCS. Play Montana and Idaho St in that ugly football facility...

New Mexico St should co-op with New Mexico and become a power. Or just stay independent and claim your in the same league as BYU and ND.

It's a risk to join a conference as a "football only" member - because you run the risk of exactly this happening - the other schools in the conference want teams to join in all sports. Hockey is one sport that is a real exception, because of the limited number of teams playing D1 hockey.

More importantly, is Danny Cordoba's Casa de Autos the primary sponsor?

Find the profanity. ! is not a letter. Ever heard of honey badger? Prob not.

NMSU joining ANY conference is not interesting or relevant.

NMSU's average attendance was 17,486. Not fantastic, but it was higher than San Jose State's, and nearly that of Wyoming. I wonder if they will try to stick it out as an FBS independent or if they will drop to the FCS. We don't have an FCS opponent in 2018 or 2020, so either way, it shouldn't affect us too much.If they stick it out and Boise State leaves the conference, they could be in position to get a MWC invitation.

In a good article concerning the debate between NMS going independent FBS and or FCS etc., we have, as West Fargo points out, this:

While the NMSU 2013 schedule had some big name schools that people could recognize, it provided little chance of any on-field success. NMSU would be required to play five FBS games at Aggie Memorial Stadium. The Aggies currently have one non-conference road game scheduled in 2018 at Minnesota

I'm doubting this will play much of a role in NMS's decision; but it certainly impacts Gopher planning.

Minnesota doesn't have an FCS opponents in those years because Big Ten teams are no longer allowed to schedule FCS opponents.

Interesting article. Makes me think they could be an FCS school when we play them.

Not quite. We do have an FCS opponent in 2019, South Dakota State. While Big Ten teams can't schedule new games with FCS teams, games against FCS teams that were already scheduled will be played. It's only by chance that we had an FCS game in 2019 rather in 2018 or 2020.
