This team had an offensive coordinator who played to his quarterback’s strength, Danny Langsdorf calling seven run plays for Tommy Armstrong.
This team had playmakers coming down from the sky, Alonzo Moore diving in the end zone, De’Mornay Pierson-El juggling a touchdown catch to himself, Cethan Carter extending the ball to the pylon.
This team owned the trenches, after getting pushed around the last two years by the Goldy Gophers.
This team had an offensive line that got physical and technical, opening a gargantuan hole on the long touchdown run, keeping its quarterback upright.
This team had a defensive front that wouldn’t take any guff, holding Minnesota to 65 yards rushing and coming up with a big sack in the fourth quarter with the Gophs threatening.
This team had a secondary that gave up some big passes early but made some big interceptions late.
This team, wow, had just two penalties...
Do not ask where this team has been all season. This is what the Huskers had planned on doing, the team they’d planned on being. Injuries happen. New coaches happen. Confidence issues happen. Stuff happens.
Sometimes, on a beautiful day in Minnesota, things change.
Maybe, as defensive tackle Maliek Collins said, it was emotional payback for a Minnesota lineman bragging about pushing around the Big Red..
