I haven't read many of the posts but it seems like you guys are having to deal wiith coaching rumors and player decommits. That sucks. You should be able to enjoy the upcoming bowl, etc...instead of having to deal with that crap. Maybe you can find someone as stupid as Auburn to take your coach and send you a great one as a replacement.

You just went through it. What's your advice?

We shouldn't be dealing with new coach issues at this point in time. Unbelievable.

I think John Belushi said it best: "I suggest you drink heavily". We are fans, wth can we do? Sit back, hope like hell your AD knows what he's doing, and watch the circus. Sometimes I think being a rabid sports fan is a horrible, horrible disease.

Did you like McCarney?

I think our informed fans have less trust in the AD than our coach. Personally, I do not feel I possess adequate information to assess the AD's performance.

I did like Mac. High energy and integrity guy that shouldered far more responsibility than a football coach should. Our AD during the last several years of Mac's run was a pathetic guy that everyone knew was going to eventually be fired. When Eustachy embarrassed himself and the athletic department, Mac stepped up and became the face of the department and held things together. Unfortunately, Mac made some terrible decisions regarding his staff and ultimately paid the price. It was the right decision to let him go, but it should have never came to that.

It sounds like SenecaTinsely gave the exact same advice regarding the coaching circus that I would have, and actually followed myself last year. If you ever get to a game in Ames, you'll learn that "drink heavily" is basically the only way Cyclone fans have gotten through, well, our entire existence.

Mac was a good man, but hit his limits. He needed to go. The way he continued to choke away the North in the exact same fashion, it was clear he did not learn from the mistakes he made on the field, and he likely never was going to.

Look at the Brewster situation this way: if he goes, good. It sounds like you guys aren't too thrilled with him right now anyway. It gives you the opportunity to snag a Butch Jones. At this point, his staying might actually be worse for everyone. That's definitely the way the Chizik thing felt shortly before he left. You KNEW he was looking to get out, and it was going to be awkward if he stayed.

You guys seem like good folks, and one of the few teams in the Big 10 I'll cheer for (NW and Purdue are the others). Hopefully this turns out for the better.

The way you describe 'Mac' sounds a lot like most folks around here would describe 'Mase'.

Not surprised at all. His name actually came up a little bit during our coaching search last year. I don't think it was serious, but you know how the coaching circus goes. Back in 2007, Brew was supposedly getting announced as our new coach along with Brian Kelly and Jim Harbaugh at different points in time. All have fared better than the Chiz did in Ames.

Very good comparison. Both guys brought the program from the bottom to the middle of the conference, but plateaued there. Both were at the school for 10-12 years.

Mac was probably more "liked" by the majority of fans (and HS football coaches) than Mason, and his leaving was very bitter/sweet for most fans as he had been the face of ISU Athletics for a decade. I got the feeling Mason was not quite so "loved" at the end of his term here....could be wrong though.

I definitely feel for you guys in the coaching situation. We got Chizik the same year you guys got Brewster (just a couple months earlier) and he took off after only 2 years (with a 5-19 record). While most ISU faithful were furious at his jumping ship, it turns out that we are all very happy to see the way things have turned out for us so far.

Regardless of how it plays out in Minnesota, I hope more wins and higher tier bowls are in your near future!

Mac's name has turned up on here a few times. Normally after a loss and the obligatory 'which coach would be a good hire' thread gets started.

But it seems like you guys made a good choice in Paul Rhoads and he's working out pretty well.

As for our situation there seems to be pain involved no matter what road we go down, but that's what drinking is for. Hopefully whatever depressing coaching choice is made a good bowl game can still be played. I'm still more interested in the Insight Bowl but admit I'm in the minority about this.

Not to wander off topic, but it's been so ugly on here lately with so many negative, awful posts, and I'm struck by how amazingly nice all the ISU posters have been. So very unlike most of the other rival school posters who drop by. So thanks, Cyclone fans, for giving me a bright spot in my day.

Unlike the droves of Hawk fans who flood our board, we don't really understand the point of acting like dbags on the internet. All it does is give other fan bases a poor opinion of your fan base. Why would any rational person want to do that? Wait... we're talking about Hawk fans. I appreciate the hospitality by Gopher fans here. Don't be afraid to check out CycloneFanatic.
