Just posted on facebook from the U of M:

Minnesota Gophers REMINDER TO ALL STUDENTS---if you are allowing someone else to use your football ticket this weekend, if they don't have a UCard, they're not getting in. The picture does have to match the person using the card. LET'S HAVE A GOPHERS ONLY STUDENT SECTION!!!!

Glad to see it. Hopefully they put their money where their mouth is.

Perfect, so they are letting students sell their tickets, JUST TO OTHER U of M STUDENTS. Very nice.

Or recent alums with valid looking ID's. I'm betting those folks could get in too. In any case, its going to be predominantly Gopher fans.

Good call, keep that red out (I say this even though I have a friend who is a huge Gopher fan who wanted to come, damn)

Only a student with their own student ID (Not someone else's ID) can use student tickets. It doesn't have to be the student who's name is on the account, just a student. I find it funny that there are multiple offers on StubHub to sell tickets located in the student section. Many for well over $100 each. Those people will be in for a rude awakening when they get to the stadium and find out they won't be allowed in. That is unless they are a student.

I don't know if it was this way at the dome, but this is the way it is from this season forward. This is not just for the Wisconsin game.

A guy I work with was all excited because his buddy got them tickets in the student section through a U student and they paid next to nothing. I asked him if he knew they needed valid U cards to get in. He looked at me with this odd expression of "wha?". They're going to give it a shot (while wearing red...I'm sure that will help), but I suggested he spend some time thinking about which bar he'd prefer to drink in during the game instead. :)

I love stories with happy endings. Thank you.

Glad I could bring a little emotion to your day fellas. Just be sure to keep these guys in your thoughts when your busy celebrating the return of the Axe. I for one am saddened that they will be unable to share the upcoming day of jubilee in person with us. I only wish I could see their tears of joy...sigh...

I am amazed at the posts

are they all from Wisconsin? or do they just suck like they do?

of the 35 comments out there it is quite a mix of reaction. Very disappointing to see quite a few students who don't seem to understand why they can't sell their tickets for a huge profit. The whole concept of a "student section" seems lost on them.

There's a noticeable trend toward people agreeing with this policy toward the end of the comments. There are even a few kids calling out those who are complaining as likely having already sold their tickets to Wisconsin fans.

Some of the complaints are priceless though. My favorites are the guy complaining that the U is making people "jump through more wonderful hoops" to get into the game by asking for a student ID at the gate - which I guess means pretty much every school is making their student jump through these wonderful hoops - and the guy who is salty because he wanted to let his mom and dad use his seats and feels wronged because he bought the tickets and feels like they should be used however he sees fit. Fortunately, there's someone calling this knobjob out, letting him know the 10,000 seats are for students and there are 40,000 other seats for his parents.

nice! make sure to forward this new bit of info to him as well. ;)

People who have student tickets are free to do whatever they wish with them. They can make origami with them, for example. But if they want to use them to get into the game, there are certain restrictions that they agreed to when they bought the tickets. One of them is that these are for students only.

Students don't have to buy student tickets. They can buy regular tickets like the rest of us, at the same prices the rest of us pay. But, if they want to pay the reduced RATE for STUDENT tickets, they have to be students. Yep, it comes with a little "red tape" (or should I say "maroon tape"?). It seems like a very logical process for ensuring the STUDENT section is properly reserved for STUDENTS.

on a serious note...what would be the proper response

to the red shirts that do end up in the student section? I assume that have them drawn and quartered would be frowned upon....

Maybe just drawn, but not fully quartered. We don't want to mess up our new stadium.

The concession stands sell pizza. Just saying...

What makes me sick is the U of M grad students who got their undergrad at wisconsin and show up in red on gameday with their valid U cards in hand.

The stadium has a holding cell right?

I have a sizable amount of flexdine on my U Card. TCF accepts flexdine for concessions. I have many ideas of what to do with any red I find in the student section.

Has anybody sent a note to Mr. Maturi on the need to enforce the student section? If yes, I won't send him a note.

By the way, sounds like students that do not have tickets should head down to the game and may be able to pick up some cheapo tickets from Badger sounds dumb enough to buy student tickets that they can not use.
