I just finished the replay of the gopher-Stephen P. Austin game. In the unlikely event he reads the gopher hole I was expecting far far worse after reading some of the comments the other night. I thought he did a nice job. He was prepared---his play by play flowed nicely---and he seemed to have a good knowledge of the players and the team. He did mention too often that the student section is in love with Rodney but for a student---I thought he did a very nice job.

I thought he did a good job also. It was probably his first ever broadcast that would be heard by a lot of people and he was prepared. Plus, he had no real color commentary to go with his play-by-play (his partner wasn't very helpful). All in all job well done.

I think the color girl said Colton Iverson was "Hot under the basket."

She might have been talking about someone else, but that's a pretty fresh comment.

They did a decent job, but I seriously think they were intentionally mocking the Minnesota accent. Nobody really still speaks like that...it was funny, though.

Prepared huh? His play by play did not flow nicely. A majority of the game I was sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for him to complete his sentence. Half the time I was completing it for him. The girl rarely opened her mouth. When she did speak her comments were about how both teams looked athletic.

I will also point out there were long pauses between play by play.

The play by play kid was actually decent (for a student broadcast, not a pro one) but that girl was so terrible. She actually said 'both teams are really active at the net, er under the net, and I think that plays a big role in rebounding'.

OK, the guy was what he was: a communications student trying to cut his teeth in the business. The girl was a complete embarrassment. I understand she's not a professional, but from someone who has worked as a play-by-play radio broadcaster, I can say she was one of the worst I have ever heard. She would go minutes without saying anything and only opened her mouth when the play-by-play kid prompted her to.

I hope the gal is not a broadcasting major. It was very painful to listen to her comments. Not sure if she was actually watching a different sport and then interjecting comments occasionally when called on? She makes Spencer sound like Marv Albert. The guy was decent although way to much detail on who was covering who, etc.

That girl did not have a single decent comment. I was embarrassed watching the game with some nongopher fans. Everyone couldn't stop laughing every time she said something.

They were both broadcast journalism students, they had a graphic at the beginning of the broadcast. And they were not faking those accents, that's what Minnesotans sound like. You just don't hear it in the media very often.
