I'm not sure why Rachel waited weeks (or was it a few months since Naters first posted Barnes' quote??) - but weeks/months later, Blount takes a few shots:

Well...when you're a good recruiter and a horrible coach, you gotta have something to hold on to.

"Hey kid...I'll never get US to the promised land, but I can deliver YOU to the NBA" and so could any other coach in the NCAA, but don't let the facts get in the way of a good story.

Precise timing right before the signing period to help turn off CoJoe to Texas.. It's possible but highly unlikely.

I doubt that Cory Joseph had anything to do with the timing of the piece. When somebody says something stupid, it's going to get talked about. And Barnes filled in that space rather nicely. It makes one wonder if he sits back and says to himself "boy, look how many guys I have in the NBA. I'm awesome." And certainly, it seems realistic based on his latest comments.
