“Well I think it's with a lot of things," he said. "I look back in the NFL a couple of years ago, the wildcat [formation] was popular,” he said. “The Dolphins were doing it, and eventually people catch up and do their homework. The jet sweep package is good at times, but you can't make your living in that. You’ve got to pick your spots.

"We try and find a couple of spots each game, or a couple of formations, that we can do it out of. But the defenses have caught up with some of that stuff. They see those things happening and can react quicker."

Go Gophers!!

Hold on, I'm going to go get some popcorn...

As long as it's not the IF14 jet sweep.

"The defences have caught up with some of that stuff"....but im sure they would never, in their wildest dreams, guess that you might call a inside zone run on 1st & 10...sure thing Limey

Maybe its because the running our bread and butter plays works. Cobb is 7th in the country in rushing right now. Other than the Nebraska game Jones had 12 carries for 31 yards. Not exactly numbers that blow you away. Of course I agree that it would be nice to see it as a change of pace play once in a while but by no means do I think we should make it consistent play-call.

What about a reverse pass, or flip pitch off of the jet sweep action.

D Jones was high school QB, hopefully they will have it set up where the opponent reacts to the jet sweep and bites off
the fake hard, Jones ducks down like he is stopped but then #88 Williams is wide open on a quick drag to the middle and jones hits him. Boom Max is off to the races and people are smiling.
Northwestern executes the reverse inside pitch off the double reverse, with jet action from both the flanker and end, you want to get Berkely Edwards involved fake the jet sweep action and have everyone overplay it like they always do and then
have him flip it to Cobb going the other way. We have not executed any play action off of jet sweep action, have the fake
but then pretend to have Leidner statue of libirty the ball behind his back and fake the run to Cobb, some will follow Cobb some will follow Maye or Edwards, should leak Miles Thomas out of the backfiled on a wheel route to the strong side, while everyone else on the defense is going to be following the weakside fake to jet guy and belly action to Cobb, they will really be overplaying the play fake to Cobb your going to have a full back or H back leaking out the backside wide arse open.

When have we ever seen the Gophers fake a statue of Liberty play to Cobb and the end around and fake the safeties and linebackers down in the box? Purdue is an agressive defense and likes to load the box with there defensive backs and have a really agressive front four, if ever there was a team to hit play action on and some delay stuff this team is it. Yeah I now it all sounds well and good, but with the agressive defensive fronts we will see from Purdue and Iowa I think the Gophers can expose both of those squads to some plays we have not seen yet. Purdue is vulnerable to the Quick out passes and quick inside slant routes, there going to bring 8 in the box just about every down, this is a team that the Gophers can pass on and really hit with play action fakes. They have really large defensive tackles so our center and two guards are in for a physical football game this Saturday.

We are such great play callers.

How about a QB sneak every play until they stop it and then a fly pattern to Maxx.

Oh yes, the jet sweep is too predictable now, so we have to try to trick them by running up the middle on first and second down.

Running up the middle is a safer play. The probability of losing yards is lower. A good example was the end around to Edwards against NW. Was that more creative to your liking? Because we lost 5 yards. This coaching staff's offensive strategy is conservative and they're going to call what they feel gives them the best chance to win the game, NOT to get as many style points as possible.

Enough about the jet sweep. This team needs to run flea-flickers. And I'm not saying just one or two a game. We should be doing it 5 times a quarter. 20 flea-flickers a game would be awesome. No one could stop it. They would key in on Cobb and BAM - he flips it back to ML7 and we get TD after TD. Too bad Limey can't see it. He'd probably do an interview saying that wouldn't work either. smh. He has no clue. GH knows better. Flea-Flicker bitch.

The "run up the middle" is the best play the Gophers have. Honestly, I get upset when they do anything but that on 1st down.

And if we were 'less predictable' what would our record be?

We lost yards because Edwards gave up on the play. He could have cut behind the blocker or try for the corner, but he just stopped. That's at least twice now Ive seen him do that. Once he trusts his ability, his blockers and the play, he'll be fine. I agree with your take on the coaches conservative calls.

Is that all one play?

It's not about going all out and getting style points, it's about being a predictable offense.

And if we were 'less predictable' what would our record be?

If you haven't been watching, then I'll fill you in... they've been 'less predictable' the past two games. Obviously, they now know they should be 'less predictable' also. Heck... Limegrover even called 4 or 5 passes in a row in the Michigan game.

Stick with what works and make adjustments when teams make you. It doesn't make a difference if teams know what is coming if they still can't stop it.

I think if the coaches got more creative with their play calling we could be sitting at 5-1 right now instead of 5-1!

We are clearly the worst coached 5-1 team in America. Fire Everyone!

So you are saying they are less predictable when they need to be. Almost sounds like they know what they are doing. Thanks for making my point.
