Strib: Whalen "Not Feeling the Best" After Collision with Fever Player

Lynx guard Lindsay Whalen collided with Indiana guard Erica Wheeler under the Fever basket early in the third quarter of the Lynx's 89-65 win Wednesday at Target Center. Whalen left the game and did not return.

It was first described as a nose injury. But, after the game, Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve said Whalen was caught off-guard by Wheeler's move, and the two butted heads.

"I just know she's not feeling the best," Reeve said. "It was pretty loud out there, so I think it was best to keep her [out of the arena bowl]."

Reeve's comment suggested the incident might be less about the nose and more about a blow to the head. The Lynx are taking Thursday off, but should have an update on Whalen Friday.

Whalen finished with 0 points, 1 assist, 2 rebounds, 3 turnovers and 3 fouls.

Lindsay Whalen, who bumped heads Wednesday with an Indiana player, started the game but played only 3:19 of the first quarter before being replaced by Robinson. Whalen played only five more minutes the rest of the game and was scoreless.

Shes fine, phoenix is just a terrible matchup for her now, and drob had her best game of the year.

Whalen was coming off an injury. They probably wanted to keep Whalen’s minutes down, so when DRob proved to be effective, they just stuck with her. I don’t think PHX is the worst matchup for her. Teams with the young, quick guards are worst. In the last game with PHX, Whalen played 26 min, shot 6-13 and got 5 steals. Five steals has got to be a record for Whalen.

I know she played well last game vs them but she cant defend taurasi or january, Lynx got lucky taurasi got ejected and january couldnt make a shot.

Zahui had a nice game. I think she would have been helpful to the Lynx this season if they could have finagled some kind of deal (2nd round pick?). But she’s probably not a great mesh with Reeve, plus she’s a RFA next year which bumps up her salary to as much as max if somebody is willing to pay it.
